Halo

Halo paused, remembering that Heartz had been elsewhere during the happening. "He was on the other side of the river, a small fellow, light grey with white brindling..." he recalled, his ears pricking toward the forest. This was not good, their solitude, and he couldn't believe he'd let this happen. As second in command, error was not an option. "He sure wasn't very friendly." he added distantly, trying not to show how on edge he was. His gaze remained locked on the forest. There was something out there, he could sence it.

"oh.. yeah i guess. having.. leader thoughts." he said, believing he sounded like a complete idiot.

It took him a moment as he stood there, but that little Equid sense began tingling in his mind. Every Equid had it, this ability to have a premonition of impending change, and it vibrated within his body now, making him tense up. His mane stood high on end and he quickly took count of the herd. Dolce was still where she was sleeping upright and the new mare was now following Canad. The brief joy in knowing that something good would come of their meeting was quickly brushed aside by the rush of adrenaline flowing through his system.
"Halo...and the yearling...where are they?" he mumbled nuder his breath, quickly scanning the herd. It was as he suspected: they were nowhere to be seen. "Canad! Canad! I'm going to find Halo and the yearling! Something is coming - or something is wrong, I don't know what. But I'm going to go find them!" The grullo stallion hoped that his voice carried far enough for the lead stallion to hear as he turned towards where he had last seen them go towards the river.

Shadow

He folowed the sound of other Equids as the forest thined and he stood at the edge and only a few yards away there was a stallion and filly that he had come across before. He smiled a sly smile as he stamped his hoof and arched his neck.

Heartz

She followed Halo's gaze to the forest. As Shadow came out of the forest and stood in front of them she lowered her head and tail in submittance. She was scared, after seeing how this stallion had acted around the few mares she had seen with him this wasn't going to be very pretty. "Is that him?" She whispered they were a couple dozen yards from the forest So Shadow didn't hear.

She looked at Canad funny for his reply but continued to follow him. When the Stallion called Livius said something was wrong she instantly became nervous and was reaady to bolt any minute.

Halo

The stallion emerged from the forest right where Halo thought he would, a sly smile on his face. This stallion didn't emit the same calm, soothing ora as the others, but one that caused doubt and hostility. This wasn't going to end well. In a only a few strides, he was inbetween the rogue and Heartz, giving a menacing whinny that seemed to come all the way from his hooves. He pawed recklessly on the damp stone, bristling his mane in an intimidating manner. "Heartz, RUN!" he shouted, flaring his nostrils as he prepared for a nasty incounter. With his leg like it was, he didn't stand a chance. He'd be lame before it was all overwith. But he wasn't about to let that menace of an equid hurt Heartz, even if he did suffer the consequences. He would go down protecting her, and if she ran while he posed as an obsticle, she might just make it back to the herd in one piece. Then Canad and Livius would be ready when the rogue started working his way upstream.

canad was distressed. he cou;d not leave his herd alone, but halo, and livius were both gone! "famous.. can i trust you to guard my herd for a bit? i smell... a .. nevermind." he said, his signs obvously hurried.

(( Nixxiona, wouldn't Canad stay with the herd because he's lead stallion and could protect them even if Livius and Halo are gone? ))

Turning at the last second to head back towards Dolce, Livius stopped a few feet away.
"Dolce, I have to go find the yearling and Halo. Please stay here with Canad, he'll keep you safe. Just...please be safe," he breathed, anguish in his violet eyes growing at the thought of leaving her unprotected. Steeling himself, the grullo stallion bolted away into the trees towards the river.

I opened my eyes quickly and looked up right a Livius galloped away, "Wait," I said and looked around, the new mare was standing nervously by the river and nearly all the others were gone. I had an urge to gallop up to him and ask what was going on, but I didn't want to disobey him even if he wasn't the leader. I considered the consequences and took a step in the direction he had gone, well, I am a good fighter, maybe I could help them. I considered, but what if is something really bad and they don't want me to see? I stood there, puzzled about what to do, then as my heart raced with worry I started off the way he had gone. I got faster and faster trying to catch up to him, "Livius! Wait! Whats going on?" I called.

Throwing on the brakes not far into the edge of the evergreen forest, Livius felt his hooves dig into the needle-covered loamy earth as Dolce's voice reached his ears. He whipped around, ears thrust forwards and mane standing on end, to face her as he gasped for air. It was a brief sprint, but it shocked him into third-gear to see the shy mare following him.
"Dolce! I thought you were sleeping!" He could hear the sound of the river through the trees and knew that he would come upon whatever was making his sense of danger tingle. "Dolce, please, something's wrong and I think Halo's in trouble. The yearling too," he added, lifting one front leg in a move to begin his ground-eating canter again. "Can you stay with Canad? He'll keep you safe if something bad happens."
