Is Blue Wilderness good for my friend's dog? She/he's a wolf-dog.

Wolf dogs, from what I'm guessing, require a more protein-"exaggerated" diet. I don't know the exact science to this, but I'd be going for a more protein-based diet, like Evo or Taste Of The Wild. I don't see Blue being the "right" dog food for a Wolf-cross, as Blue has a smaller amount/source of protein (has about two) as opposed to TOTW and Natural Balance (about five).

My dog Mitzi, who is about 5 yrs old according to the vet, is doing wonderful on TOTW. Before totw she was being fed purina. Her energy was almost non existent, she didn't play with her toys, and slept in her bed all day. She also had dry fur that she often pulled out with her teeth (no fleas or such) and she had a lot of eye gunk. Now that she is fully on totw (did a gradual switch) she is doing amazing. She frequently brings me her toys to try and get me to play with her, or she simply amuses herself by tossing them around and attacking them when I can't play with her. Her fur is much softer now and shiny, and she no longer pulls it out and it has fully grown back where bald spots once were. The eye gunk has almost completely gone away, the rare eye gunk being very small. Her teeth are also better, and she doesn't have horrible breath anymore. I am so happy I found this thread and learned about feeding her better. ^^

Hmm, our dogs have some eye gunk in the mornings and one of them, our oldest one, has some teeth problems.
Our younger one, however, is full of energy. c;
They have a lot of fur and it sheds in the summer, so it's good they have nice, long fur, or they would freeze to death in the winter.
Science Diet hasn't hurt them so far. The vets appeared to approve of it, actually.

The vets only "approve" of science diet because they're paid to sell it. Vets hardly ever have a good understanding of pet nutrition because they aren't taught about it in most vet schools. When they are, it's usually taught by companies like Mars and the creators of grocery store brands.

I feed my dog wellness however it's really silly to say a dog wont live long because it's fed beneful , iams , etc.

My friend feeds those brands mixed to her dog and they're healthly. I also know a number of dogs who are fine on this brand of foods. You can have a completely healthy dog being fed on these brands. I also hate it when people call others bad owners when they feed these brands. It's up to the owner and no body has the right to do so. I know in other countries the dogs would be feed left overs from the people living there and sometimes lived to be 15+ years. Those "By animal products" in the food, yeah those dogs are fed on that. Heck the people even eat it there. Yep, cow stomach, chicken feet, etc.

I don't think anyone, on here at least, is trying to say that dogs will lilve a bad life on this kind of food, nor were they saying that makes you a bad owner if you do feed those. It's more that, if a dog is fed a higher quality food, they are much more likely to live a healthier and longer life. There are always going to be ones that are out of the norm....but when you switch any regular dog from something like iams and beneful to something much more high quality like Merrick or Fromm...there is usually a drastic change in the quality of health and energy of the dog. Higher quality foods can also help to eliminate certain health problems too.

I switched my dog from beneful to Wellness he stayed dopey and dumb. xD lol seriously I didnt see a difference. He is still the same energetic, 6 year old dog who has never gotten sick.

Perhaps it's a matter of defination but I consider ingredients that have been proven to cause cancer to be posion. And while "by-products" like cow-stomach, chicken feet, etc. aren't a problem in some dog foods "by-products" can also mean road kill and euthunized shelter animal with their flea collars still attached. The euthunizia drug doesn't get destroyed in the rendering process so dogs who eat that food are injesting small quanitites of it through out their lifetime. A drug meant to kill an animal. Dog food companines are not required to disclose where and what exactly the "by-products" in their particular food are which is why some people choose to avoid "by-products" all together.

Just because a dog seems healthy doesn't mean it is. Exposure to carcer causing agents over time causes cancer later in life. Some people may be able to eat fast food only and live a long life but that doesn't make the food healthy or make it a good idea to feed everybody that.

I haven't heard anyone here accuse anyone of being a "bad" owner. People have come here to learn about dog food and options avaialable.

Well, if a dog is fed the crappy food, like the $3 for a 40lb bag kidn of crappy, their whole lives, changing the food is sort of difficult. Our barn dogs, an Aussie mix, Baloo, and a lab mix, Soco, had eaten that kind of food their entire lives, but they are healthy and full of energy, even as they're getting a little older. We tried to switch them to TOTW and their stomachs couldn't handle it. They loved they food, but they got so sick. |: I think she's slowly stepping them up to good food at the moment.
