I sighed, thinking to myself how very different these two boys where. The shorter, paler one, seemed to not like speaking much. He seemed tense as well, like ready to take off any second. "Well, look at us. We're still mere children and we're talking about it like adults! Should I suggest a game? I know a good one! I saw one of the groups of higher class kids play it once..." I laughed, suggesting the game like it was something normal for me. In truth, not even with my adoptive parents would I suggest playing games. It was considered a waste of time that could be used to be helping around the house. Now it was a waste of time that could have been used for stealing. However, I was still a child and every child, though they wouldn't admit it to themselves, held on to their innocence for as long as they could before the truths of life unraveled themselves. My eyes went wide though, at the thought of a game. "I don't think you can play it alone though... Three players was it? Well? What do you think! It'll be fun!" I promised, my tone hinted with a beg.

Ren really didn't want to stay there. Every second was another second someone could recognize him, which given Mark's obvious hatred of his kingdom's ruler would be fatal. Did he really want to risk death for the sake of playing a game, sending his land into turmoil? Of course not. But it didn't really seem he had a way to escape it without seeming even more suspicious. By then though, it was obvious enough that Mark thought him a criminal, which wasn't much better. Ren did not want to play this game, obviously. Casting Mark a glance of 'up to you', how was he supposed to say that he had to go? "I don't know. I have to go fairly soon....." As usual, his tone was quiet, and flat. He had no intention of raising it, who cared if he sounded rude. But the girl's tone was a beg, and he knew street-children and poorer ones had little time for fun and games, and it seemed wrong to refuse her request. Besides, it would be a break from the mayhem of life...albeit a short and dangerous one.

Wonderful temptation, but Ren was not one to succumb to it, when at any moment it could mean his death.

My mind raced, suddently working out problems which I hadn't even agreed on working on. It was like recognition was pulling at one string, but it refused to unite with the light bulb. I tryed to push the feeling away, tryed to replace it with the thrill of finaly having the closest thing to a friend that I've had in quite a long time. However, plans fail. But however my mind gnawed on the idea, the thoughts wouldn't quite connect. Not letting a thought register on my face, I smiled, brilliantly and as close to genuine as you could go. 'Who is this boy?' The question echoed and repeated in my head every time I looked at him. He hadn't given his name, which he had claimed it was unimportant, which begged the theory he wasn't of lowly standard. Probably some Gaurd's child, though then I would've seen him around. In my usual rounds around the less plagued part of town. Where people grew fat from the gift of a good profit making its way into their pockets, and later, into their dishes.

Us, who usually starved, envied them. However, this also seemed like a flaws theory, because then he wouldn't be here. He'd be playing with his chubby friends. Plus, he seemed unhealthy, quite pale, and stressed too, by the tension of his body. The boy looked like a deer, right about to take flight, only to have an arrow peirce its racing heart. ' I don't know, I have to go fairly soon... ' these words repeated, dancing like the flames of candlelight. A picture flashed into my mind, the face of a boy. He was also quite pale, though unnoticeable at first glance. Decorated in lavish clothing, carefully embroidered with delicate fabric like velvet, sewn with the most skilled of hands. And then the stringof recognition tied with the light bulb, with turned on, giving a luminescent glow. The whole series of thoughts masked by my very convincing smile, even though my eyes where lighted with interest, and later, danger, which only skiled eyes could see.

The dear calm and pale boy, who I fancied so, was the ruler of the kingdom. The puppet who not only seconds ago I had been so open about. However, among all the surprise going on in my head, one thought stood out from the rest. ' Mmm, yes. This story seems to be unraveling quite nicely. '-

Upon hearing the girl in front of him suggest the playing of a game, Mark looked at her as if though she were quite insane. As tempting as it was, for Mark was still a young child even if he never got the chance to act as such, he wanted to refuse simply out of instinct. Playing a game? Although for the fact that she added that a few of the higher class kids had been playing it added to the temptation. Although one could still see the doubt that lingered on his face, and as always, the suspicion. Glancing up at Ren he stared at the boy, eyes narrowing considerably at hearing his words of leaving soon. Well that had indeed made his mind up. “Then I believe we should play this game that she has suggested, if only for a small period of time.” Still. Mark had never actually played a game. For who had time for one? Mark personally would rather be eating or gaining a small profit then playing a child’s game. However, that ever growing temptation was there. It was obvious that the other boy was not wanting to play, which was only making Mark’s wrong suspicions of him grow. “If you do not wish to stay for this, you do not have to. But it would be nice.” He told the other boy simply, not exactly caring much if he stayed or went. The sickly boy seemed very... His thoughts drifted away from this as he looked over to the girl, awaiting an answer from either her or the other boy. Now there was also something about this girl... Or perhaps it was simply his own paranoia. Very likely, when considering that option. But that had kept him alive so far, and even if these were just a bunch of street kids such as himself, it was always better to be safe.
