((Ah, her little ploy. Well, sorry, I'll try to be more clear.^^"))
Vaan grimaced, the familiar essence of pure, untouched water was stronger now that Laila had taken out the container full of the liquid again, and he didn't like it. He knew that most water spirits, and real spirits-the "avatars" of the element, not creatures in tune with lakes and such- should long to go for a swim every now and then. In fact, he could tell more or less that the two girls affected by the absence of water were wishing for a large enough body of it to call a home. However, whenever he thought of his natural habitat he felt ill, remembering the last time he'd been submerged and how badly it had boded for his well being. So, wether it was real anger or just mild nausea, he felt compelled to turn around and direct a bitter glare at the nix in possession of the lake water. "Put that away already would you?" He hissed quietly once he was certain the teacher was paying attention to Everine. "Go take a shower if you're that desperate. Sheesh."
Leonard nodded a little when he "heard" Hino's explanation-since dragon's were more often than not of higher intelligence than even his own kind it was no surprise that Mugi's unusual intellect came from a relation with them. And he speaks. He figured some reply was in order, though he wouldn't call the minor communication with the phoenix girl a conversation, even if it was just pointing out the obvious. For a few minutes Leonard just stared awkwardly at Mugi once the salamander had scrambled up the leg of his suit. Frankly, he didn't like having anything male on his lap, animals or not. "Greetings, salamander. By wizard-wizard are you referring to my title, or my given name?" He eventually inquired, unsure if Mugi would have said "dark wizard" or "Wizard Lowell" had he known the information. Or maybe he was just unfamiliar with the language, but that seemed unlikely, even if it was hard for non-magic users to speak with the mix of spells and tuned hissing wizards and witches often used.
When Leonard caught that Everine was communicating with him again he found himself immediately building up a hasty but powerful mental block, allowing only his surface thoughts to be visible. It was much easier to trust Hino, as her species was generally rather honest, than it was to trust Everine-especially when he knew how wizards like himself could act in the best of circumstances. Magic could corrupt, especially if you were aware that not everyone around you possessed the gift. "I'm not my kin. We're not all like that." The dark wizard eventually replied after seeing Everine's unfortunate run-in with black magic. The wizards in the memory were mostly strangers, though there were one or two familiar faces, and Leonard didn't want to be grouped together with the majority just because he'd made the same life style choice as they had. Still, he'd have to be very careful not to let his own past of cruelty get out; it would be enough of a handful trying to convince her he wasn't evil just because he was a dark wizard, adding that he'd recently handed over his girlfriend for torture and God knows what else probably wouldn't help.
The teacher sighed, incorrectly assuming that Everine was being sarcastic and attempting to antagonize her, before turning to face the girl once more. She stopped mid sentence-having begun to tell the students jeering and insulting her to shut up and pay attention- when she noticed the tears on SIbbs' face. For a moment she felt bad for the girl, seeing a teenage child going through some difficulties and being picked on by the bullies of the class. She had to shake her head and remind herself that even though these kids looked human-and most weren't even kids, the majority were older than herself- they weren't, and maternal instincts would get her nowhere when dealing with them. "Probably, yeah. Now hurry up, you've probably walked past it a million times. Right down the hall, in front of that fountain you all seem to think is your own personal swimming pool." Granted it was a pretty cool fountain, but there was only a handful of students who didn't spend most of their time playing around with it.
