That's just a myth, I mean, the milk being good for pregnant or lactating hamsters, they don't help the female in anything, in fact, they can put them at risk, since the female loses many defenses after the birth of the babies, so, they are more fragile, milk should be in fact avoided as much as possible.
Supplements should be the correct thing to give them, they are not very expensive and are pretty good to help the mother and after the 15th day the babies can start eating as well.
A FIXED diet (by fixed I mean, for exemple: Monday - Supplement and egg, Tuesday - Supplement and carrot, ect ect) should be done until the babies are weaned, in that diet it's good to include: Vegetables, fruit, supplements, which can be baby food or any supplement sold in a vet or pet store, it's good to ask first as we don't have the same brands as America or UK, egg (just a really little bit of it for the mother and after the 15th day, if the litter has more than 5 babies, a whole egg), cooked meat (Better if Chicken, NO SALT, only with water, a chicken leg is enough for a whole month, for the mother and the babies, so, it should be given in small pieces as well) and fish (Same way as the cooked meat).
And yes, the supplement shouldn't have any milk included, use water to make it and read if it has already milk before buying it, if so, don't buy it, some baby food and pet supplements already have milk, which as I said, is not good for Hamsters.
Sorry for my english, it is just my 5th language.
