I woke up and staggered to my paws, wincing from the pain in my throat. Thorn was next to me, talking soothingly and asking me to say something. I opened my mouth to speak, but nothing came out.
"Can you help Misty and leave. All of you." Thorn said quietly, watching me with worried eyes.
As soon as they were all gone, he sat next to me, running his tail up and down my back. "Shadow? What's wrong?"
I waved my ears desperately, moving my mouth desperately but to no avail.
I threw my head back to howl in despair, but nothing came out. My mouth shaped the sound, but nothing came out.
I twisted around as Thorn nudged me to my paws. I glared at the forest. I would get my revenge on River. And she would pay dearly.
I darted past Thorn and leaped onto the deer the pack was chasing. I bit into its throat and bared my teeth in pride.
It had been months since I had mysteriously lost my voice, and I had figured out ways past it. I was proud and was determined to keep that way. My mind kept going to the past, when I had felt River's teeth sink into my neck, and I growled. The pack had found her scent the day before, and she had sent Farkas, Jace, Sam and Frost after them with the order to bring Sage and River back alive.
Thorn nuzzled me, grinning and I flicked my ear at him, rolling my eyes at him.
I looked around in pride at my pack, the ones around me and the four in the distance, hunting the cause of my muteness. I threw my head back, howling silently and the pack joined in.

(None of the charries but Shad, Jace and River belong to me!)
