The news was shocking, no one saw it coming.
The king has died, along with the next three in line for the throne.

The new king is sixteen. He does not understand what he is supposed to do. But that doesn't matter though; his 'advisors' have viewed this as a wonderful moment to take power. All his decisions are made with a gun pointed at his head from the shadows. Their is no loyalty for him, a previously unimportant fourth child. So, no one bothers to protect him or intervene with the advisors. The new king, young little Ren that never thought he'd end up on the throne, will not be alive much longer. Everyone knows it. Soon enough, when the advisors and others' who are participating in the show from behind that shadows have established their power in the castle, New King Ren will be having an 'accident'.

You are on the sidelines.
You might be a child of a noble with high power, or distantly related to the previous ruler. When that last of old king children, now only Ren, has died, the next ruler will come down to a vote. The advisors and high barons are almost defiantly going to pick a child, at least under twenty, for they do not want the position themselves as for fear of assignation and want a puppet. That could easily be you. It will be, however forced, a life of luxury. Heck, maybe you'll even find a way to get actual rule over the land. But it is a position some of you fear.

What will you do?
Marry down to some commoner and be safely out of the voting, or do all you can to stay out of the way of the advisors and not to be viewed as a threat and therefor assassinated? Or will you start bribing and killing, to make sure to get the throne yourself? Anything can happen. Just remember, never let yourself get on the bad side of the advisors and nobles manipulating the king, you will die. Or maybe you're just a commoner.... who got caught up in it all.

Last but not least....
While Ren might appear broken and too weak now to try anything anymore, he's exterminating any possibles successors he think will run his kingdom to the ground. It's not easy, trying to fake everything. And then there's the people after his heart, for a marriage with him is having the crown handed to them. So.... he remains silent, avoids people, and kills the threats.

Rules
We all hate 'em, but we need 'em.

1. A decent paragragh per post at the very least.
2. No power playing at all. This will be very strictly enforced.
3. No mary-sues, at all.
4. All of Tess's rules, of course.
5. The advisors and high barons important actions will be controlled by me alone. Small stuff is fine.
6. Anime and real pictures are both fine.
7. No more then three characters each unless you show me you can manage them all.
8. OCs only. I don't want to see a King James or Katniss Everdeen here.

Notes

1. the new ruler does not have to be male. There are queens here, females can hold power.
2. In this world, homosexual relationships are not viewed any differently from heterosexual ones, mind you.
3. One-shot, ineffective guns are the best weapons available here. Most use swords, save for the King's Guard.
4. There is a castle. There are guards. Everywhere. Sneaking around is pretty unrealistic.
5. This is older times. Diseases are fatal, and medicine is not very useful, and so forth.
6. Once again, this is older times. No cellphones or cars here. Think donkey and messenger.

Description: He's thin, not very tall, and usually looks sickly for good reasons. His face remains forever blank, as he must not let anything show on fear of his own or other's deaths. Despite the ornate clothes and jewels he is trapped in every day, something about him looks feral. Maybe the way his hair is always sticking out strangely despite the best efforts of almost-caring attendants, or that his eyes are forever scanning his surroundings. But, he's weak looking nonetheless. Of course, inside that fancy coat he has a gun, two knives, and who knows what else. He is king mind you, and despite the efforts of his advisors. Even if he cannot hit as hard as the laboring children of the lower streets of his empire, a bullet will hit the head of whoever attacks him before anything can be done, either from his own gun or that of one of his guard. Like said, he can move fast if needed, and it is best not to test him.

Personality: There isn't much to say. Constantly surrounded by attendants and guards, Ren rarely speaks more then a few words at a time, and none at all if not prompted. He's dark, overly-suspicious, paranoid, and highly dislikes anyone who chatters or insists on being near him. Knowing he has not long to live, Ren rarely has a smile on his face, and doesn't joke. Everything is taken seriously, and anything but what is completely important is viewed as trivial and not something he needs nor wants to hear. The only time he will ever show anything other then a blank, uncaring expression is when at night, when the door to his room is locked from the inside(and outside, so he can't go out that way. Both sides have to be unlocked for the door to open, courtesy of his advisors.) he sneaks out through a window. Bribing the palace guards, he acts a street child. Of course, he's still paranoid, dark, and sarcastic, but that the only time you have a chance of speaking to him. Any other time, the only reply one can get is a blank and uncaring look.
Ren has a phobia of women, given that 98% of the females he meets are out for his heart so they will be at the top of the social ladder when he is eventually killed. That, and a phobia of being trapped, pinned down, and water. All of which are also justified for their own reasons. All in all, Ren is a semi-stoic who really is just a scared little boy.

Description: Unless she says, it's impossible to tell if she's a girl or boy. Even her voice is the kind that could be either, low for a girl, high for a boy. Usually she says the opposite of what she actually is, for the hell of it. Although her face came out remarkably lucky, almost all of her is covered in scars. The most noticeable is a a long one stretching from the collarbone to hip, which when it was inflicted came within an inch of killing her. There is also a burn scar across her right arm, from wrist to elbow, that generally she hides with long sleeves. Other then that, the picture is fairly accurate. The only real change is that she wears simple clothes more fitting for the era, usually the typically uniform of the Royal Guard, and obviously has no make-up on like in the picture.

Personality:From afar, Adell seems cheery enough, usually with a genuine smile when she meets strangers, and laughs easily. Easily getting into long conversations, it's a nice surprise that after an hour of talking Adell has given nothing away about herself, and remains on guard. Overly-suspicious but still smiling, reckless enough to often act on it, she's a strange one. Nonetheless, she makes friends quickly, and stays in touch. Laughing frequently, it's hard to take her seriously, and usually she doesn't give any sign of being anything more then a rather ignorant teenager. She doesn't get embarrassed, and jumps to assist those she likes.
Don't be fooled.
Adell is a manipulator. She pulls strings from afar on everyone, leading them all to amusing shows. If they get hurt, no worries, it doesn't matter to her. She laughs from the sidelines, her true self making an appearance. Her little smiles have a trap waiting behind them, probably involving the point of one of the there knives she carries with her everywhere. As for opening up to people, she doesn't. This girl watches everything that happens inside the castle, and is your source of information. All it takes in one coin in her hands to know what you want, or a bit more money and she'll cast a blind eye. Being the captain of the squad that watches the gates and entrances to the castle, she know most everything that goes on, and having her agree not to see you do whatever you are going to do is incredibly useful. She happily takes bribes and let's information 'slip', so come to her when you want to know anything.

Name: Rinalle Kurshov
Nickname: 'Your Magesty' and 'My queen' are the only two safe nicknames.

Gender: Female

Description:Rinalle stands tall and proud, not one to slouch or look away. Her eyes are forever bouncing from one thing to the next, a piercing hazel that suggests she can read your every thought. Her hair is usually carefully groomed and styled, something that probably takes half her day. There's so much oil in that golden hair that while it may look pretty, touching it will probably make ones hand be glued to her head. Rinalle's skin is a bit darker then in the picture, not exactly tan but a pale brown rather then white. There's a small birth mark she liked to believe is shaped like a crown on her neck, but honestly it's just a birthmark.
Her limbs are slim and have no muscle to them, as why would someone of her position have to do any work? Her limbs are long, with fingers that are constantly doing something, whether it be tampering with some device, throwing a stone, slapping her newest enemy, or just plain tapping whatever is near by. Likewise, it's hard for her to keep still despite her best efforts, and it's rare to see her still.
Rose dressed most elaborately most of the time, which is normal to her. There is very rarely no jewelery on her, and one of Rinalle's favorite habits is to deck herself with priceless jewels. Often though there is a small silver necklace tightly around her neck, which is a mocking symbol. It had belonged to the old King Ren(not that he wore it, but as it was embedded with the king's seal it was a sign of being ruler), and she promptly taken it as a way of laughing in his face. Other then that, there's little not noticeable about her. She would never wear anything so revealing as to show that there is a long scar from her shoulder to hip on her left side though, from the attack that nearly killed everyone with royal blood.

Position?: New king, as decided by Ren's -now her- advisers. She's a cousin of Ren's, who fit what the advisers wanted perfectly.
Personality: Rinalle is the very essence of a spoiled child, no sarcasm there at all. From a young age, Rinalle has been taught that everyone else is below her. Coated in jewels and dressed before she could even walk on her own, it's no surprise that Rinalle has quite the eye from shiny things. However, given she could always have what she wanted, Rinalle grew incredibly greedy and selfish. From her position as a niece of the king-before-Ren, there was nothing she ever had to hope for or want, only luxuries that she could demand and gather, filling her rooms with glimmer and sparkling objects, so many of which it could be mistaken for a treasury. To add to her 'collection' became her only goal.
Or at least that was her life until the murders of nearly everyone with royal blood occurred. Her parents were both victims, but Rinalle had never cared for them and was unaffected(the fools denied her ever more riches, how dare they!) by their death. However, suddenly a young boy was on the throne, and it was common knowledge that soon he would need to be 'replaced'. Rinalle, used to boy's falling to her royal, slipper-covered feet was shocked when Ren actually had the nerve to scoff at her and walk away without interest when she tried for love. Ever since that shame, her goal changed; that throne was to be hers.
Since that day, Rinalle has been winning the minds of the advisers with little trinkets, and her only interest is gold; a perfect puppet for them.
Now on the throne, Rinalle has her sights set on another kingdom, where rumor has it the order to have the royalty of kingdom assassinated came from. It's only rumor, but the kingdom is one of the most finely decorated; Rinalle is going to use the assassination as an excuse to wage war, and plunder the beauties of the land.
In the meantime before war can be officially declared, Rinalle is taking revenge on anyone who has ever done anything to her -one bad look when they were young kids, tripping into her, something that could perhaps be taken as an insult that was spoken- and ordering their executions. The castle is being purged... of everyone but those the advisers convince her to spare.

Description: Ty has a tall figure, standing at about six feet in height. His hair is long, and falls a little past his shoulders. Because it's so long, it is usually pulled back into a half-ponytail(style shown in pictures). His hair is a dark-ish blonde, and is slightly wavy. His skin is a darker shade of ivory, with a light tan over his arms, torso, and face. Most of his weight is muscle, seeing as he is in the Royal Guard, he has to stay in shape so he can move quickly and keep the drawstring on his bow as tight as it normally is. His eyes are a bright blue, which seem to pop out from his otherwise light characteristics.

Personality: Jay can be quite sarcastic at times. Sometimes, his sarcasm can be a bit much, and it just changes from "joking" to "yeah, no. I don't like you" quite quickly. He can be overly cheery as well, but it's just a cover to hide how much it pains him to see that his King is going to die. Tyler has a short temper, and is quite skilled with his bow... so... If you just so happen to get on his bad side, you better be a fast runner, and a great hider, otherwise you're dead.

Description: Michael has dark blonde hair that darkens to a deep brown as it nears the roots. His eyes are a dark shade of blue-green. His skin is lightly tanned, seeing as he works in the fields and with horses as a stable boy. He has a small bit of muscle, because he works with the horses and their tack all day, almost every day. He's skilled with a bow, seeing as he hunts deer for food, so his father won't have to pay as much to get food.

Description: He had middle length blonde hair, stands about 5'10", is a bit skinnier than average weights, and is frankly unimpressive in stature. He doesn't do much excersize and that which he does do is mostly focused on use of a bow and arrow, or a small knife.

Position?: Related to the King. Second cousin to be exact. King Ren's grandparents are Nemec's great grandparents. The old king had an older sibling. That older sibling had children, who becuase they were much older than Ren was, have had children of their own, one of whom is Nemec.

Personality: Nemec is a prodigy, but he is incredibly bored. He has very little interest in anything, but he does have a strange ambition for causing trouble. Probably the worst choice of king for the people, he takes interest in no other people. But to the advisors, he is probably one of their top picks. Because he would rather mess around and cause trouble, starting fights and the sort, he wouldn't be a threat to their ruling the country as they wish.

Description: Zaire has a strong, but slim build. She is a skilled fighter, often helping with the training of knights-to-be. She can dance from either side, carries most weapons with ease and grace, and of course, she loves athletic endeavors. Her hair is long and brown, she wears it in a loose hair tie on a normal daily basis, but leaves it down, where it is long and wavy, for formal events.

Personality: Zaire doesn't care what others think. Let them ridicule her for being a fighter, even though she is a woman. They might not think the same if they knew how many people owe her their lives. She is clever, and she puts it to use well as a strategist. There are several people in the castle that think that is was indeed her who killed the king and the three princes, thinking that she had ambitions toward the throne. However this is not the case, she trys to stay away from the beaurocrats and the aristocrats and most of the nobles just for good measure. She keeps her own cottage on the castle grounds, but don't you dare get anywhere near it.

Description: Ari is a very small...petite boy. He looks very fragile and weak, which that is what he is. With pale skin and dark messy hair, he is a very unique boy to say the least. As stated, he has a small form. He isn't terribly skinny, but he is....slim. No muscles whatsoever. He isn't the type to work out or anything like that. Yes, he carries a knife around with him. Does he ever even think of using it? No. Not at all. It's sharp. Why the heck would he use that? His hair isn't too long, always kinda messy in it's odd little way. He has brown eyes that sparkle quite a bit, with his forever lasting smile that is pretty much permanently on his face.

Position?: Cousin of the King. Ren just loves him. XD

Personality: Ari is just an odd person, let us say. He is usually always happy and cheerful, despite what may be going on around him. He loves just about everyone. At times he is very quiet, at others a constant talker. It really depends on the subject and his mood. Talking about his moods....they are the strangest things. Completely happy and ignorant, to terribly depressed and murderous in just a matter of a small while. His moods often depend on who he is around and what he is doing. Certain events can trigger very odd moods. And a few days later, that same event could get a totally different outcome. Ari also isn't one to remember things very easily, or take hints. If you want to tell him something, or have him learn something, best to tell him outright otherwise he will usually never get it on his own. But this can also lead him to become very sad. So. Random boy, to say the least.

Nickname: Not many people know my actual name. I usually go by just Grey. Some who know my name call me Mark. Or just Marcus. It really does not matter.
Age: Fifteen? Maybe older? I don't know. No use keeping track. I'm alive, that's all that matters.
Gender: Well, I would say male.

Description: Marcus is a petite looking boy, looking small and fragile. From afar at least. But even up close he seems...just small, nothing of a threat. But, this boy is always carrying several different types of knives with him, and loves a good fight, just so long as he knows he wont get killed from it. Fights like that he tends to 'run away' from. His motto- Life above all else. He isn't exactly tan, even though he spends quite a bit of time out in the sun. He just isn't one to tan. There also is the small fact that he often wears a brown cloak, nicely hiding himself, and other things that are hidden on his body. Also makes stealing a bit easier. His eye color, if you ever happen to see it, is a very bright and shocking blue. Mark's brown hair is nothing that he usually is concerned about, so it is often messy and spiked in different directions. All in all he is a fairly cute boy, once all the dirt and grime is washed away from his clear and pale skin. And his smile....it is rare that one would ever see it. But it shines brightly, if there is something worth smiling about. He has several different scars along his upper arms. One scar running across his side, he doesn't remember where that one came from. And there probably is a few on his back as well, not that he can see them. There is also one scar, about an inch long, on his left cheek. He had been 'getting' food from a shop, when the owner caught him, gave him a nice cut on his face.

Personality: Mark isn't one to be kind. He is very suspicious of mostly everyone, and tries to read someone when he first meets them. Tries to get an idea of who they are and what exactly they want. Because, let's face it, no one is just there because they want to be. They always want something in one form or another. And this is precisely what he likes to figure out. It's like second nature to him, but he's always trying to figure the little things out. Sometimes he can't, which more than frustrates him. But that's life, right? This is also what has kept him alive. Along with stealing. He is somewhat of a Kleptomaniac, but one has to survive when in this position. So stealing is acceptable, to live. At least in his mind, he could really care less what others think about that. As long as he keeps alive, everything is fine. He's actually a pretty handy little guy, when it comes to it. He is loyal, if he ever finds someone that he can be loyal to. Which isn't really anyone. One wouldn't know it, but he is a tad bit....romantic? Usually he doesn't care about anything in that region. Life above love, after all. But, eh. Maybe if the right one comes around. He isn't one for guns. But knives, he has plenty of. Again. Life, above all else.

She loves her parents and follows their commands, even when they unsuitable to her.More intelligent then most people her class, Maud does not like to reveal much about herself to people she doesn't know.
