Bill quickly slipped inside the classroom as soon as the teacher turned her back. 'Don't turn around, don't turn around...' he thought repeatedly to himself as he walked towards the seat at the far end of the classroom, next to a dark-haired girl with purple eyes (Annetka). He sighed in relief as soon as he reached his desk and sat down just as the teacher finished what she was writing and turn back towards her students. "Thank god..." he muttered to himself and reached inside his backpack for his pen and notebook. A few moments later, he pulled out a white notebook with silver tribal designs on the cover and a silver pen with his name engraved on it. He opened the notebook and started flipping for a clean page which proved quite hard since said notebook was filled with doodles, bits of song lyrics, and unfinished poems. He eventually found one and started jotting down everything the teacher wrote on the board with his sleek, loopy handwriting that teachers always found difficult to read.

After copying everything on the board, he flipped through his notebook and stopped at a page with a plain drawing of a cross. He decided to beautify it a bit and produced a sharp pencil from his bag. He then started meticulously sketching various designs and shading the cross until it was completely finished and ended up looking like this. He had a small grin on his face as he examined his work. It was quite beautiful and it looked a lot like the cross that he always wore around his neck.

But I hear those voices at night
Sometimes they justify my claim
And the public don’t dwell on my transmission
'Cause it wasn’t televised
But it was a turning point
Oh what a lonely night
The star maker says it ain't so bad
The dream maker's gonna make you mad
The spaceman says everybody look down
Its all in your mind"

Annetka slowly set the pencil down then comfortably crossed her arms over the notes she had taken, resting her head on them. She turned her head as another boy had sat down beside her, and one of the first things she happened to notice was the cross necklace he wore. She quickly shifted her gaze back to the front of the classroom then brushed her hair behind her ear.

The Canaima breathed a slow sigh of boredom, her head slightly tilted to the side as she closed her eyes for a moment. Her eyelids snapped back open as the teacher had called her name; it wasn't that she was tired, she was only a bit bored. She slid her hands back into her lap and fidgeted with her pants, clicking her boots on the wooden ground under her chair as she leaned back again. She didn't want to draw too much attention to herself; see, she didn't want to get in trouble nor did she want to be invisible like she did at the last school she went to. Maybe this was different, though...

Shifting her gaze back to the boy (Bill), Annie tilted her head slightly to the left. She noticed the drawing he had on his desk and blinked twice, examining the curves and details that it head. It was quite pretty, actually. "Good drawing..." She murmured quietly, looking back over at the teacher in case she had heard her comment.

Everine cocked her head to the side listening curiously to the screaming and blubbering of the men outside the classroom. "Must be those bastards. Staff, headmaster, humans; all the same." She mumbled to Annetka, who was sitting beside her, with Bill on the opposite side of Annetka. She peered inconspicuously over at the intricate drawing, marveling over its delicate beauty. "Oh, that is beautiful, Dear Sir." She whispered in awe. "It is much better than my crude cartography." She smiled, eying the ornate cross around his neck. She pulled out her heirloom cross from under her wizard's hat, and showed it to him.

After listening, quite intrigued, to the nasty human's speech, Dulson squawked and flew to the teacher's desk and cocked an intelligent as well as highly intelligent (maybe more so than the teacher herself) and picked up a pencil and handed it to her.

Leonard was tempted to shake some sense into his fellow students once he noticed the one boy drawing, actually drawing, in the middle of class. That was fine sort of, but everyone else seemed to be admiring the particular doodle, and talking about it. Sometimes this just seemed hopeless... but then again, he'd done the same thing when he first got here. Just normal high school behavior, talking, showing up late, drawing, etc. At least there were no cell phones, as far as the dark wizard knew all the power lines hadn't been rebuilt, or at least they hadn't when he was still in an actual city, they might be up again by now. Well, not that it mattered, Mythic Dawn probably didn't get cell service. Wouldn't that be useful though? Of all the things he missed since being trapped here contact with the outside world was probably number one, followed by variation in the daily routine. Sometimes he daydreamed about seeing films, going to the park, roller skating... and definitely holidays, especially Halloween. It was fun to hear other kids blabbing about how they didn't believe in monsters or ghosts while he worked up enough energy to talk to a few. Black magic had always been his specialty, though it ad been very hard as a child.

The teacher was about to let out another frustrated torrent of words, in response to how the students obviously weren't paying her much attention, when the bird landed on her desk. For a moment, she just stared at it, shocked that someone would actually bring a pet into class, or that the stupid thing was trying to give her a pencil. "Who's bird is this? You do NOT bring animals into the classroom! We've already got you things, we don't need a hawk adding to the mix." She snapped, glaring at the students individually. Vaan ducked his head, knowing he wouldn't pass for the type to keep a pet and hell, he wouldn't take the blame for some random kid either. Haley however, sighed and muttered a curse before raising her hand. "M-mine ma'am. You see, there's not much wildlife around..." She shrugged awkwardly, pretending to be embarrassed. It took the dunce teacher a few moments to get what she was implying before she shook her head, obviously disgusted with the werewolf, as she had been led to believe Dulson was some sort of snack. However, she figured this was some 'wold tendency, and therefore, not just a pet but the student being yet another mindless animal."Ugh. One of you just get this thing OUT already. It's probably got some disease."

Everine was busy explaining to anyone who would listen about her useless babble, quite enjoying the quiet artist, Billy the Kid, he calls himself. She was snapped out of her speech when the teacher shrieked (much like a raven, she thought) as Dulson landed there. She sat up, quite interested in what her loyal, as well as Royal (but we will get to that later) companion alighted on the teacher's desk and handed her the pencil. She listened intently and chuckled at his tactics, allowing a hesitant smile to light her face, which made her strong,- as well as delicate - features seem quite pleasant.

Dulson, seeming to think that this was an opportune time to show a portion of his powers in public. "Well, I say, Mistress, I am an independent creature, capable of my own possession of my self. Ha Caw!" His voice sounded wild and full of power, but a little hesitant to use his voice. Wizard Sibbs's jaw dropped, her eyes widening. "Dulson! You can actually speak?!" She said, not too loudly, for fear of being sent to an unpleasant room, with a certain horrid man. Dulson turned around, giving his companion a quizzical look of disapproval. "Guardian and Keeper Sibbs, that would be the most unintelligent thing you have ever said." He squawked, flying back to her shoulder.

The wizard then remembered Haley's comment and glared at her with horror. "What?! How could you lie so blatantly? He is not yours!" She said coolly. Dulson threw up his wings in frustration.
"I told you, Lady Sibbs, no one owns me. Hah Caw!"

Laila looked with curiosity at the hawk. She couldn't help but give a quiet laugh at all this comotion. How could someone own a hawk and never know it can speak? She had a feeling that class was going to get more exciting. Though she still stayed in the back of the classroom. Still keeping a low profile. She wasn't an idiot, she knew better than to draw attention to herself. Her fingers traced the side of her jar. This jar of water was the only thing that stopped her from loosing her head. Though it was still not enough water for a Nix to live happily, but it was better than nothing. Laila leaned back in her seat and watched the show.

Normally none of this would have mattered--Jake would have just sat and waited for it all to pass, her hair dripping into her face in the fashion of water. But normally she didn't have to worry about a certain sweet little phoenix getting her feathers ruffled. She turned her head to see Hino's cheeks puffed out, turned and indignant red as her hair sparked and the curls perked up as fire twisted within them. Hino's mouth opened and Jake's hand shot out. The damn desk was too far away though and she had to get out of her seat to cover the phoenix's mouth.

"Pick your battles, Hino," she rumbled into the girl's ear, then straightened up. She bowed, a swaggering bow that was full of mocking respect, her eyes narrowed. "Alessandro Medici was Duke of Florence as of 1523, made so by Emperor Charles V. Cosimo I succeeded Alessandro in 1537. Cosimo used cunning and bribery, and force of arms aided by the Spanish, to take the rest of Tuscany under his rule." She slouched at the hips, hands tucked into her back pockets, and stared at the ceiling as she drawled off everything she knew about the Medici--which turned out to be quite a lot. She dropped her eyes from the ceiling and looked lazily at the teacher. "Right?" she finished. After a moment of holding the teacher's gaze, she dropped back into her seat, propped her head up on one hand, and watched the board with lazy interest. The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end though and water dripped surreptitiously from the ends of her hair. She could feel sharpened canines below her upper lip and kept her mouth slightly parted so it wouldn't show too much. Her scent stayed emotionless--she'd practiced smelling like nothing but horse and water and faintly predator--and she would like to keep her inner turmoil a secret. As a caution, she locked up her mind and avoided looking at anyone.

Hino licked her lips, watching Jake, then turned her eyes on the bird. Dulson, the girl had said. She smiled. Wing-brother, she thought happily and warmed at the thought. Logically she'd known she wouldn't be the only bird here, but proof was always appreciated. Maybe he would go flying with her. No, they'd better not. But they could sit and talk as birds and she would not be so alone, for try as Jake and Mugi did, they were not flock. They were friends, nothing more and nothing less. She ran a hand through her hair, shaking out the locks until they stopped they nearly inaudible crackling and settled down again. She could smell sulfur still, but she was pretty sure no one else could. At least no one human, and she didn't much care about the nonhuman ones. They probably wouldn't think much of such a faint scent. One glance at Jake told her that the kelpie was going to being very irritable after class. She made a face at the thought. More scolding. Great.

The teacher glanced at the hawk, completely unimpressed by the fact that it could speak, since she had seen much weirder things, though to her this just seemed ridiculous. "Really? Hm, that's annoying. If this is your... thing, then you are in some trouble. And so is the bird." She sneered, glaring at Haley who had been staring at Sibbs like she was an idiot. "I was TRYING to save your ass, idiot." The werewolf growled under her breath, amazed at how little this supposed genius girl actually knew. "I'm a wolf, I can say I eat birds, but you're already in hot water with the headmaster. Good luck, won't be surprised if that bird's tossed in a pot later." She shook her head again, wondering how much trouble this annoying wizard would be in. Really, that was stupid behavior even at a NORMAL school... though, the girl had probably never been to a school. Well, this could get bad.

"Right, good enough. I wasn't looking for a know-it-all, just the important fact. They were bankers, the biggest bankers of the time, and one of the most influential families. The rest we will be getting to later." The teacher sighed, remembering the question she had asked about halfway through Jake's speech. "Well, YOU won't. Brat with the fancy chicken, take this," she scribbled a note and placed it on the edge of her desk, "and find Michael. Far as I can tell you've met before, to some extent." That was partially directed at Haley, who regretted bringing up any prior... incidents almost immediately, but she couldn't say she was really distraught by the thought. "Now then, all of you sit down and don't disrupt my class again or she won't be the only freak off for some time with the headmaster, clear?"

"Yes ma'am." Leonard muttered sarcastically, too quiet for the teacher to hear. Great, now it looked like he would either have to find some way to keep that girl alive, or they'd have one less student before the first class could even finish. He'd have to talk with these students after class, being new was one thing, that other wizard was just arrogant, and the kelpie looked ready to kill any staff member she could. Well, at least things would be interesting. Vaan would have agreed with the interesting part, but he was fully convinced half the class would end up dead before too long, as he always jumped to the worst conclusion. Scratch that, actually they could end up a lot worse than dead... eh, not his problem.

Everine could tell there was tension, and that most of it was aimed at her. And she also knew that seeming to be oblivious to the staff and other students was a perfect guise. The teacher practically ignored her, and the students just cast glares or rolled eyes in her direction. "Oh, if they only knew what they could get themselves into with me... and Dulson... and other, ah, things, they would not seem quite so annoyed with me." She whispered so quietly, that her lips did not even move, nor a single emotion slide accross her face. A small salamander slid out from her fiery red locks and plopped to the floor, and scampered (well, not really) slowly away, towards Hino. Dulson flew back to the clever wizard, passing Hino as well, and giving a bird-type of recognition to her as he passed; then alighting on Sibbs shoulder. She smiled at him, and touched her nose to his beak, then resumed her attention back to the teacher, raising her hand high, and met the dark wizards eyes, a hint of recognition passing between the, then it was gone and her appearance seemed to be just as it was before; the silly old wizard woman.
