In the UK fancy rats and dumbo rats are different breeds. Pet shops will charge more for Dumbo's because of their ears and fany rats tend to be smaller and more fragile where as Dumbo's are more robust. I think that is just the way they have been bred here.

Ok, in Sweden the only difference is the placement of the ears. Dumbo rats and "normal" rats are usually bred together, not a lot of people breed "purebred" Dumbo rats.

I'm in the UK, and they aren't different breeds. All pet rats (everywhere) are just fancy rats. Dumbos just have their ears in a different positon.
Pet shops like pets at home do charge more for dumbos, but they are completely uneducated the majority of the time.
They also told me that dumbos grow huge and live until 5 or 6 years old lol. It's a load of nonsense.
Dumbos and top eared are exactly the same.

Hey, guys! I'm opening an art shop- with rats! Now, I know no one is going to comment on this at all, or even pretend like they're interested... but I'm just letting you all know. I'm not as good at drawing rats as a few of you on here, but I've been wanting to open a shop for a while to keep me preoccupied when I'm not busy with school, and the idea came to me that I should make a rat adoptable shop.
I'm still working on the design of the actual shop, but the first litter is ready. I'm planning on making a second for the big opening. The lineart is in my gallery if you'd like to check it out.

Anyone have any ideas for homemade rat enrichmet (toys, play items) for in their cage? I have made a rope, ahamock, a sock tunnel. They have an spare hiding house, a wheel (they don't use), half a drain pipe and a chew (also don't use). I have given them cardboard box's before snd they don't seem to find them so great anymore. I don't want to use food because they get alot of trats anyway. Any ideas? :)

Ping pong balls, Jake loves them, he pushes them around his cage xD Also, I bought a bunch of cheap rubber ducks meant for kids from Poundland which he also likes nibbling, I know these aren't exactly home made but they're not your average rat toys :3

Ohhh...could try a cat ball :D i don't think i will use ducks because my rats would probably eat them lol.
