Mascot Contest:

Time for stage two of our Mascot Contest! This one caters to the visual artists among us.

Objective: Draw two pictures of our mascot, the Goddess Ashire, whose story is below. One should be large and detail since it will replace the kitty cat on our front page. The other should be smaller and simpler for it will become a badge people can put in their siggies.

Requirements: Just make sure you include the name of our club and an image of our goddess. Anything beyond that is up to you.

Deadline: April 7th (subject to change. I don't know how long it takes to create these things.)

Send all entries to me, MBRShorse. Only one entry per person, so make sure it is good.

Alright, and...BEGIN!

*~.Imagination.~* wrote:From the mind of a gifted child,
Who had the ability of a Silvertounge,
A Goddess was born.....

She lives high above the heavens, where the stars sit below her, and she can look down upon this planet of ours with a mix of fondness and disgust in her gaze. For there is a mix of people sitting on this Earth, some of which she favors, whilst there are some she would be happy to write out of existence. This Goddess was named Ashire, and unlike most of her kind, was created by the very humans that she ruled over.

A child, not yet 10, had sat hunched over at his desk as he scrawled messily on a sheet of notebook paper. He was writing as swiftly as he could, as if afraid the words would disappear if he didn't record them right away. This was probably the last place you would expect a powerful Goddess to be born, yet it was indeed here that she started out.
Abruptly the child stopped, and with a grim expression, rose from his seat. He faced the wall, and read aloud from his paper.

"A Goddess to rule the writers, to grant inspiration and muse. To bring our knowledge forward, and to push our insecurities back...." he started, continuing on to describe this Goddess, from her abilities, to her looks, to her responsibility and personality. And then, knowing exactly what would happen, he stopped reading, and as his final word slipped away, something happened.
Suddenly, a strong wind started. The child used his arm as a shield to stop the wind, and the things flying about, from hitting his face. The curtains in his room whipped open, and papers flew wildly around his room until, just as abruptly as it had started, the wind ceased. As papers and envelopes drifted to the ground, the boy removed his arm hesitantly, revealing the figment of his imagination come alive.

Standing before him, was a Goddess.

She looked rigid and stiff from where he stood, and an odd swirling decorated her skin. When closer, he could see that, just as he had written, her pale skin wasn't skin at all; it was paper. Just like the rest of her. However it blended together so perfectly that one could hardly tell that she was practically a paper maiche' person. And the swirling was ever moving words and phrases encircling her body. The more emotional she was, the darker and larger the words, making it possible and all too simple to literally read her emotions off her. At that moment, she was practically emotionless, so the words where a light grey, fading into her paper skin.
She turned to the boy, already knowing who he was, as he had written her with the knowledge of him already there. She looked at him for a moment, then pointed to the ground.

"Kneel before me, humble child." she commanded. Though her voice was stern, it was not unkind. The boy did as she said, going onto one knee and bending his head without question. The woman had a small sheath, where one might put a thin dagger, strapped to her side. However, instead of a weapon, she pulled out a raven black quill, long and seeming to glow in the light.

"I thank you, young writer, for giving life to the words you have written. And for that feat, I grant you muse and inspiration forevermore. Never again will you be left without thought, your mind blocked, unable to think of a way out of your writing predicament. You have now honor, gifts of muse, and... Another gift." she said thoughtfully. The boy looked up at her quizzically.

"The gift of choice." she announced to him. "Being a Silvertounge is both a gift and a curse. You wrote me with the ability to choose if my talent took effect whenever I read aloud, and now you too have that choice." she told him. His features lit up and he rose, knowing now that this had indeed been a good plan. Now there really was a ruler for the writers, and it wasn't just a fantasy he cooked up in his mind and dreamed about when boredom took over.
Now he had powers, and the ability to control them. Now he had a Goddess for him and all the creative writers. Now he had his dream come to life.

And all the gifts she gave him lasted. He grew to be a famous writer, making millions off his book, though, still the humble lad he was before, kept little of it. Instead he donated it to writing associations across the nations, hoping to give other children the same skill and joy he got from writing.

And the Goddess too helped them; granting deserving writers muse and inspiration, banishing writer's block and doing her best to live up to the expectations thrust upon her all those years ago by that little humble child.

What will we call you:
Lasesi, Lassie, Lass, something along those lines :)

What are your goals as an author?
Finish both of my full-length books
Potentially let people read said books
Manage to write a book that people enjoy to read :)

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
I sat and waited, anxious and nervous, trying to listen to the thoughts racing around my head, the thoughts I couldn’t focus on, no matter how hard I tried. My eyes were closed and I kept them that way, it was a little escape from reality, at least until shay gets back. I didn’t want to deal with what was in front of me, what she had done to us all, I didn’t want the truth, not yet anyway.
An angry howl echoed into my thoughts and I did my best to ignore it. It could mean a number of things. Was she dead? My heat skipped a beat. What if she was? Could I accept that and move on? I knew the answer, but I refused to listen. Where do my priorities lie now? With Shay, of course. I reprimanded myself. There was no way I would leave the Alpha. Especially not now, not when she needed us most.
The pack changed direction; they were on their way back to the clearing. With a deep breath I opened my eyes to the bloodshed. A shadow of anger crept into my body and I bristled with malice. With shaking paws I approached the strewn body of Ash, picked him up gently with my jaws and dragged him over to a white, untouched patch of snow. The pup had annoyed me quite often, he was immature for his age, and I had often wondered if he would make it to Alpha as Shay had said. Even though I didn’t like him much, the twinge of pain was still present. I had lost a family member. He is too young. I sighed to myself. I hesitated before moving on to Alaya, unsure if I could bring myself to touch her lifeless form. I took a deep breath before wading through the sea of blood. Her brown eyes were still wide with surprise, her tongue lolled out of her mouth, her beautiful white fur was dyed crimson. I refused to look upon her neck, where most of her throat was missing. It would be disrespectful. Alaya had always been nice to me. Every memory I had was of her chasing after Ash, telling him off, or them sleeping together. They were never apart. Perhaps, if I had gotten a chance to talk with her, properly talk, we could have been friends… Perhaps.
Alaya was a year younger than me. I still remembered her birth from the previous season. She had been from a litter of three, and Shay had been so happy to finally have her own children. And I, I had been jealous. Up until then I had been her favorite, her only child, even though she was not my mother. Back then I refused to talk to anyone other than Shay and Amel. They were the only ones I dared trust. Amel… Amel had saved me, so long ago, and I owed him my life. I would never forget that.
Alas, Alaya’s two brothers died within the first week of their birth. Shay was heartbroken and refused to leave her birthing den for two months. Amel ran the pack back then and Shay’s absence didn’t affect things much. My first memory of Alaya was a shy, tiny little puppy, hiding behind Shay’s legs on her first venture into the world. And the first thing I ever said to her? It had been a low, jealous growl that emanated from my chest. I wasn’t proud of that, and as I dragged Alaya to rest next to ash, all I could see was the terrified puppy that had looked up at me from behind the protection of her mother. She had never seen the world, never known the thrill of the hunt, and now she never would.
The anger flared up again and I tried to ignore it. It’s all her fault. I hissed. Enna. She had ruined everything. She made me feel things I told myself I never wanted to feel, and I allowed myself to trust her. I had allowed myself to fall in love with her. How could I have been so stupid?! I let out a bark of frustration and kicked the snow with my paw. My fur bristled again. Why did it hurt so much? Why did my heart feel like it was breaking? Why..?

*Giggles* thats different from my old post X3

What will we call you:
Snowy.
What are your goals as an author?
-Finish all the books I'm currently working on.
-Publish at least one before I'm through high-school.
-Come up with a plot idea that involves animals, and animals alone, but is at least realistic.
-Write a book that ends with all the main characters dying.
Can you give us a sample of your writing?
Night had come quickly. For a second, the sun had fought for its throne in the sky, its struggling orange beams mixing with the shadows of darkness until it was a writhing mass, hanging in the atmosphere. Then the sun relented and dipped down until it had disappeared, leaving only a few faint streaks of bright color to show it had been there.
As if it were a signal, one last, echoing chirp rent the air, and then silence pressed down. But night was always a bringer of serenity. Wispy clouds left thin trails of vapor in their wake, pushed by the wind that was always there, swelling its cheeks with a big breath to let loose when it deemed the time was right.
A crescent moon looked down upon Earth, illuminated in a silvery light that was tinctured with yellow. Its gentle curves were silhouetted against the darkly hued backdrop.
And then a scream pierced through the air.
It was in a shrill, high-pitched voice, that was both panicked and frightened. It was a wordless roar, but it stopped as soon as it had started.
It had come from a little girl.
She was six, clothed in a two-piece set of pajamas that featured cupcakes with bows and comical smiles, the type of clothing favored by typical young mothers. Her feet were pushed into a pair of slippers with bunny ears that drooped until it touched the carpeted ground beneath her feet.
Her surroundings were comfortable, all soft edges and blunted points. But her expression was one of fear.
She was staring into a empty corner. No one had come running at her scream, for her parents had left her with a baby-sitter, who had promptly fallen asleep in front of the TV as soon as the door had snapped closed. After all, it was a wealthy neighborhood, with law-abiding neighbors. What could happen?
A single light flared high above her. It cast its luminous beams down onto the girl, bouncing off her lush curls. She kept her head down, her eyes now squeezed shut.
Her heart was racing, thumping wildly in her chest.
(Piece used in other form. ^^ Un-edited.)
Are you currently working on any books?
Yes. Many of them - over ten. c:
Why do you want to join?
I think it would be nice to be able to chat with other writers. It is a attractive thought of being able to exchange ideas and tips.
Do you have published books yet?
No. I wish, though. P:
Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
Not, right now; so no.
What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
Hmm. I don't really have one. For reading- any book that catches my eyes. For writing- any ideas I might have.
Were you a member of the old thread?
Yes; p. 32.

They say, "Why can't fellows be allowed to do what they like when they like and as they like, instead of other fellows sitting on banks and watching them all the time and making remarks and poetry and things about them?"

What will we call you:
Kitty, or for Lasesi, it's Kitten L0l

What are your goals as an author?
1.) Publsih a book ~
2.) Finish a book/story I actually write for fun
3.) Later on, write a story with a collab partner ~

Can you give us a sample of your writing?
Code: Select all
The petite silhouette of a porcelain ballerina casts an irregular shadow on the floor as she twirls, revealing small clouds that happened to be floating through the air.  A soft melodic tune comes from the small stage the young dancer frolics on, one of the only in the quite room.  In a dark corner, a girl sits, her wavy auburn hair matted to her tear streaked face, twiddles with a small item in her hand.  Abruptly, she pulls the small toy to the side of her head.  The soft melodic tune is broken by the artificial bang created by the toy, a small gun she had been playing with.  Without the success of what a real gun would have done, the girl collapses to the floor.  Another wave of tears hits her, her body convulsing as the endless flow of salty crystals falls from her eyes.

Are you currently working on any books?
Why jess I am :3

Why do you want to join?
First off, I was a new member of the last one, so why not keep being a member? And, because I am writing a book and could use some help on bits here and there

Do you have published books yet?
Naw, but maybe later ~

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
Not at the moment

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
I <3 Fantasy stories, and teen dramas ~ Not the romance ones, but about survival and finding yourself, etc. I'm a sucker for books about summer vaca's at the beach. I love to write books like the ones I read, but I never seem to finish one :\

Were you a member of the old thread?
Yes, it was on page 51

I have two very different styles that I enjoy. Here is first person, past-tense.
TickaTICKatickaTICKatickaTICKa
“Mom, what’s that ticking sound?” I asked nonchalantly.
“It’s just the clock. Now get in bed, it’s 10 on a school night,”
I did as I was told, a million uncertainties going through my mind. It’s not the clock. I’ve heard this before. I’ve got to get away.
I went into my room, but I’m not exactly sure why. I should have been getting as far away from the house as possible. The ticking was louder here. Much louder. My heart was pounding even faster than the ticking. I couldn’t think. I could barely breathe. I took one last look at my room. The white walls, black carpet, the checkerboard comforter and the little desk which I tried to do schoolwork at but was always overtaken by the beautiful view of the Pacific ocean. That view was priceless to me.
I stepped into the bedrooms across from mine, where my little brother and sister were sleeping. I kissed them both on the forehead and bid them farewell, forever. This would be the last time I ever saw them. No more playing catch with Benny or giving Abby piggyback rides. No more family photos with us all smiling, the two twins sitting in my lap with their little brunette heads leaning against me. I think I cried.
I felt so cruel. Even though I had reasoned with myself that if they escaped they would just have to run away from everything. They wouldn’t have lived much longer if I had saved them. The Society would find them. Like always. Like now.
After that I only have fragments of memory. I climbed out my bottom floor window and started running. I ran faster and faster but I knew it was too late to start. I would get hurt somehow, but I just might survive.
An explosion that must have woken up people across the ocean blasted through my ears. I kept running. An unbearable heat was rising up behind me. I knew I only had a few seconds before it hit me. I ran harder than I ever had in my life, then dive-bombed into the ground, hoping it would mostly pass over me. I covered my head like I was doing an earthquake drill in school and gritted my teeth.

And this is third person (or maybe second... I forgot) and present tense.
A little boy slips on a backpack and runs.
A little girl snatches a purse and plush bunny, following the boy through the smoke. It is midnight. Smoke alarms are blaring and an awful, hot wind is following the children. They are sweating, crying, but not screaming. They know better than that, so they keep their mouths tightly closed while they run from the fire out into the night.
The children meet their parents with hugs, kisses, and tears, then move out of the way for the firemen to extinguish the flames.
Now the girl sobs. She stands holding the hands of her parents. Father’s in her right, mother’s in her left. They stare onward as their home turns into a charred black skeleton, its breath a thick and dark gray.
The little boy pulls what seems to be a large piece of lint out of the pocket of his hoodie. It is a light gray rodent; a hamster. He sets it on his shoulder and joins his family.
The firemen come to see the family and ask if everyone is alright. The mother nods, but says nothing, as she is choking on a sob. One of the firemen smiles at the little girl and boy. The boy, who is older, is not crying as hard as the rest. He smiles back and shakes the fireman’s hand. Why is the boy not crying? He may have been trying to be brave for his mother and sister, whom he loved very much. That must be it, because even through his composed face there are teardrops waiting to rush out.

Are you currently working on any books?
Yup. Both samples are from separate books. The top has no title yet, and the bottom is called Photographs.

Why do you want to join?
Well, I enjoyed the old thread. Also, I love getting actual feedback from other author-buddies. On many other threads like this I get ignored.

Do you have published books yet?
No...

Do you wish to find a "writing partner"?
Yes

What's your favorite genre to read? Write?
Reading? As long as it's not terrible, I'll read anything. I enjoy most classics, fantasies, supernatural (lovelovelove supernatural/ghost books) and realistic fiction the best...
Writing? Realistic fiction with a tiny hint of powers and/or supernatural.

Were you a member of the old thread?
Yup. Page... Uhmmm... 16
