I totally love this! Amazing stuff you've written there and incredible, beautiful artwork.
I suffer from numerous things, including depression and PTSD. Some days, it feels like I'm not even there. Just in the past.
It wasn't till fairly recent that I've begun to realize how I've been living my life, and made it my new year's resolution to stop creating my own misery. Stop being introverted and start making friends like I used to. Stopped drawing and writing vent stuff (which I used to think helped me, but actually brought me down). Stop being so angry or completely emotionally detached or fake happy.
It's still a long wrong ahead, but I already feel like a small bit of weight is lifting off my shoulders. You're totally right. I can't believe it's taken me so long to realize that you make your own happiness.
