Exactly. People who cannot afford protection for their livestock shouldn't have them at all. I don't want any of, "Oh, but it's the only thing they have and their family has had livestock for generations", stuff. People have the ability to move on. Whether they choose to is up to them.

we have a barbed wire fence, and coyotes still get in and kill the cats sometimes. They still get in, and come really close to the house.
If animals invade humans, they usually are shot, and yes, they usually need to be. ^^

@Ourpawprints-
well, I would rather use money for something like taking care of live stock rather than spending it on wolves.
Its easier to kill them.

I have foxes in my area, and a lot of time, money and effort was put into building proper protection for the chickens that I keep, and none have ever been taken by foxes.

thats probaably because foxes are generally smaller, timid, scavengers, unlike woolves and coyotes.

The foxes here are no more timid than wolves or coyotes. And adding onto that, wolves are very timid animals considering their size and strength. Some ranchers locate the wolves with a radar, and when they are close, shoot to the sky to scare them off.

Foxes are sneakier so they are still a problem. If a wolf hunted your livestock you might find out and scare them off, while a fox is sneaky. (Omg this is so off topic)

A bigger animal has to eat bigger prey. You wouldn't see a weasel taking down a moose. Also, I wouldn't run, but that's because I'm very used to gunshots thanks to my neighbour who opens fire too early in the morning to be sane.

I wouldnt run either but animals most of the time run away from things like gunshots or loud noises. And about the bigger animal bigger prey thing, snakes ((most of the time)) the gila monster will bite a much larger animal (such as a cow or something) and will watch it die even though they are only 2 feet long and then it will eat the animal. ((sorry if that made no sense to you at all)

But you would see a wolverine taking down a moose. c:

Anyway, I whole-heartedly agree with shooting a wolf/fox/coyote if it is a problem animal. When animals discover a ranch, you might as well call it a fridge full of food to them. Do you honestly think a bit of fencing will stop them?

Sometimes they can't move on. If people could "move on" so easily, do you think there would
still be drug, gambling, or alcohol addicts?
Ranching only pays so much money. Ranchers pay a lot for equipment and livestock, and
probably can't afford a different lifestyle.

Derp, popping in here to ask a question that has perplexed me for a while.
I have a neutral opinion on wolves and hunting, so I'm no hater, don't worry.
This might come off a bit rude, but I have no other way to put it xD.

If there was an animal (other than humans) that was larger, and wolves were their natural prey since this animal had a large apetite... Would you want to kill the animal that ate the wolves?
