((Hmmm Wildmagic do you think Lucky Jack needs more people helping him? There seems to be a lot of bad guys.
I've got another character in mind if needed))
Alex's gaze made contact with another's girl's green eyes for a heartbeat, and though her expression was friendly, he quickly looked away. A surge of awkwardness and anxiety hit him like a truck-
Alex winced silently as another man accidentally ran into him, bumping his freshly bruised and cut cheek. He looked up in alarm, his feet had already skittered backwards a few steps. He leaned against Shawnee as if she were somehow protecting him.
"Yessum." he said, barely audible, his voice flat. He could hear the blood roaring in his ears.
This was a stupid idea, Coyote. You cotton-headed idiot! But the man's attention was turned to the injured lady. They walked away. Alex let out a huge breath he didn't know he'd been holding.
Thank you, Lord. With adrenaline still making his heart race, he led his mule to the town store, walking more hurriedly than before. He left her at the hitching post, wiped some dirt and blood off his face with his sleeve, and stepped into the store.
The green eyed woman was in there, her dark hair falling over her shoulders in a kind of beautiful way. But Alex pushed all thoughts besides breakfast out of his mind. He quickly located the eggs, scooped up three, and a slab of bacon. Alex didn't even consider stealing it. The shopkeeper, with his gray hair and steely blue eyes, had been watching him like a hawk since the second he passed over the threshold. In fact, the intensity of the old man's stare was making him even more jumpy.
Please don't recognize me, ya old coot. Jest want to get breakfast dangit. Don't recognize me. Alex willed silently, keeping his face carefully calm.
