XD Sorry if this sounds like bragging or something, but, honestly, I've been doing Wakeful Lucid Dreaming for as long as I can remember. Like on car drives, or before I go to sleep, or when I'm bored; I just close my eyes and I can see pretty much anything I'm thinking of, crystal clear.
I thought it was pretty common actually; my sister can't do it, but she's pretty un-imaginative, and whenever she tries to visual something, it just looks like a blob to her XD But yeah, ever since I can remember, that would be my 'escape' whenever I'm bored. ^.^ Its especially useful for planning out my next scene!

PS- I posted this a few pages ago, but never got a reply. What does everyone thing of this as a plot idea?
*~.Imagination.~* wrote: Ok, so I have a book idea running through my mind. I'm just in love with the concept. I have a very vague idea with it.

Its centered around a 13(ish) boy who is a great pick pocket/thief. The boy is an illegitimate child who doesn't know his father, and whose mother died when he was 10. He's lived on the street for his whole life and does his best to stay alive. His light hand and quick mind are helpful to him, though his witty tongue can get him into more trouble than it should. He has a short temper, but over the years he's learned how to out-smart his enemy's, since his small stature made it hard to out fight them. He's clever with a knife and can pick a lock with relative ease, but he has trouble with direct confrontation. His strength is in sneakiness.

Thats all I have so far. What do you think?

In regards to lucid dreaming, I tried it last night and failed. o-o I'm terrible at it.

And in regards to the plot, I rather like it. I watched 'August Rush' last night, which is very similar. You have to give your character certain wants and needs, though. Remember that. What's he looking for? Does he want parents? Does he need to pickpocket something in particular? Or will others take advantage of his skills? There are all sorts of crazies who live out on the street. You can make characters of these and you'll have a never ending supply conflict.

As for finding inspiration, I've got a number of places:
-Newspapers are a very good source.
-Graves. Preferably old ones from the 1800s- early 1900s. So many ideas lay hidden there. Once, I found an early 1800s family grave. A disease had spread around in plague proportions. All five children from ages 4-15 and their mother died. The father lived. Just seeing that kind of 'hit' me. I gotta make something out of it someday.
-Rping builds your communication skills with readers, and also shows you how to develop a good plot.
-Friends and family can turn into characters. Heck- Rename everything you know! Your favourite band, your best friend, your street, your pets, and even yourself.
-Games, movies and books are always good; as are songs.

That's all I can really say for the moment. If you have any more questions for getting inspiration etc, feel free to pm or even just quote and write back. :3

Yknow, I'^e always had the same thing, more or less O.o
Mine's more, when I'm alone, in my room. I'll be sitting there, and just daydream.
The difference being, the whole world literally vanishes, and all I can see or hear is the fantasy which I'^e concocted, until something snaps me out of it. What really irritates me is I'll think about exactly how 'weird' this is, and that'll make me all self conscious and I'll lose the ability to do it until I stop focusing on it!
Sometimes I'll just get fragmented images, or other times I'll get a full, clear play by play. I'm a writer myself, and I'^e always thought that my imagination is what's made me one.
Now, see, just then, I was looking up thinking about what's been a book idea for a while, and I seriously just lost the world. Despite looking at my window, I wasn't really, I was focused on what's in my mind's eye.

Sorry to intrude on your thread, just my 2 cents!

Edit: Oh, man, I just read your plot idea thing. That's about the same as my character for just about e^ery rp I'^e e^er put him in. O.o

:3 I haven't been here in a while.
On the topic of Lucid Dreaming, I think I've been doing it unintentionally for pretty much my whole life.
Every dream I get (which isn't that often, actually ^^) I can twist it whichever way I want.
On topic... I have writers block. I can't think of where to go next in any of my books. .v.
They say, "Why can't fellows be allowed to do what they like when they like and as they like, instead of other fellows sitting on banks and watching them all the time and making remarks and poetry and things about them?"

Shawie, you thread intruder and post stalker! *Drags out of thread flailing around*

I honestly don't know how you get so deep into a daydream. e.o Being home alone at the moment, I'm still trying it... and still failing at it.

Yes, I hate it too. e.o Some cures for the blockage include:
-Graveyards. Yes, they have some good stories... especially the old 1800s ones. o-o
-Newspapers
-Rping
-Games, books, movies and music
-Writing an essay on a random topic from a character's point of view
-Getting some character art done. It's great for inspiration.
-Literally pretending to be your character for a period of 10 minutes. How would they talk? How would they walk?

So... Because it's still early (for me) this is all I can recommend so far. If you need more, then just quote and write back. :3

Oh, I shall, but right now all I have in terms of plot is one scene flashing into my mind.

The boy sweeps silently out of a dark alley, pushing up his collar, not to ward off the cold, but to ward off the curious eyes that scan the poverty stricken street in which he walks. His dark eyes dart left and right, taking in his surroundings as he lowers his head against the cold wind. He makes an ineffective swipe at one of the coal stains which covers his somewhat too-large coat. It hangs loosely off his small body and billows behind him as he walks.
Spotting a well dressed and arrogant looking man, who sticks out like a sore thumb against the filthy and polluted ally background, he quickly averts his eyes downward, not wanting this all-too familiar face to spot him as he sweeps down the side street and disappears at a bend in the road....

Thats all I got so far. XD

It seems pretty intriguing. But who is that man? What us their relationship? How does this effect both characters? Could you write a scene from the man's point of view?

Good luck with it. ^^ I'm gonna go do some work on Crawling in the Darkness, now... Gotta use Write or Die for motivation.

We've been talking about lucid dreaming lately, and I've been complaining how I can't get so deep into a day dream. XD

Ah. Whenever I dream it's pretty crazy, but I can never control it.
Do you guys know that if you look at your hands during a dream, you can control it?
(I've never actually done it, but I heard it somewhere most-likely trustworthy)
I wonder if you guys already said that.
