Sail the Seas (Pirate RP Needs Members!)

"Well," said Sonja, out of her depth and knowing it, "I've heard a few stories about th' original crew, an' I want to know what happened to 'em. The ship was barely limpin' along when I joined. Liam managed to patch 'er up, but how did she get so damaged? I hear tell of a huge fight wi' the navy, and then I hear a story about a maelstrom, but I want to know what really happened." When she had first joined the crew as a gunner, before she was promoted to navigator, she had witnessed the first mate Milo being shot down by a naval officer. She knew that a young woman named Ella had also died, and several other crewmembers besides, but she didn't know how and didn't quite care to remember every event of that long-ago day.

Jack chuckled but did as she said, working through the instructions as she said them, making a face as he got his fingers covered in raw egg. He still hadn't had time to wash the dried lime juice from his hand and forehead, and was grateful that Gannet's nan hadn't said anything yet.
"I seen 'em sometimes, when we come to ports like this one. But I ne'er seen 'em somewhere else. It's good ta see 'em."

The woman nodded, only half-listening to the cook as she chopped peppers to put into the pan with the eggs. "So how come you lot wound up on th' shores o' Ireland?" she asked after a bit, moving the peppers around with her spoon. "'Cause if ye thought we had anythin' worth stealin', yer dead wrong. Ain't been a lick o' good fortune anywhere on this island since the potatoes started goin' bad. Some people are callin' it a famine, an' it ain't even winter yet."

Jack rolled his eyes as he continued with his work. This would be hard to explain, and he was sure Sonja wouldn't want him explaining everything to some old women they had just met.
"Well, you could say that we run aground on yer shores." He finally said with a small smile, rubbing his hands off once more on his breeches.

"Run aground?" replied the woman. "'Course ye did! Who's yer navigator, anyhow? Must be completely gobsmacked iffen they was tryin' to sail 'round the coat this time o' year. We get a storm brewin' out there every other day, and a lot o' good it does the fishermen, too. Scares the fish right into their nets." She chuckled, then scooped the eggs onto the platter with the potatoes. Picking it up, she tucked her spoon into the pocket of her apron and shouted once more into the main room, "Last call for breakfast afore it goes to the dogs!" She didn't keep any dogs, but the pirates didn't know that.

"Navigator is Sonja. She's the one who's in charge at the moment. Cap'n was injured, ye see. Yer neighbours took 'er ta the infirmary." He answered, and pushed some strands of hair from his face. Watching her as she put the spoon away, he shook his head, rolling his eyes. "They've 'ad a nice nights sleep. Ye'll prbably 'ave ta use tha' spoon ta wake 'em up." He joked, looking over his shoulder, through the doorway.

[Crewmembers spent the night sleeping on the floor in a small farmhouse owned by Gannet's grandparents. They're waking up now; just join in.]

"Aye, ye're probably right," agreed the old woman. She stalked into the front room, fists on her pudgy hips, and glared at all of the men and women who were spread out on her floor. "Iffen all of ye aren't up and ready to eat by the time Ah reach the count of three, ye'll be gettin' no breakfast at all and Ah'll have ye out in the shed shoveling dung! Hop to it, ye lazy-boned pirates!"

Ryder's eyes shot open at the voice of a grumpy, old lady, and he couldn't resist smirking slightly. He sat up and yawned before standing up and walking slowly towards the lady. "Well 'hanks for yer wake up call!" he said smoothly, grinning at her idiotically. The gunner passed her and stepped into the kitchen. Spotting Jack, Ryder couldn't suppress a snicker. "She got ye workin' for 'er?" he asked, running a hand through his blonde hair.

Glaring at the man who smirked down at her, the old woman waved her wooden spoon threateningly and said, "Ah'll have due respect from ye, young man. A crew o' pirates, that'd fetch a hefty prize from th' Navy, so don't ye dare press me into sendin' Gannet down ter fetch 'em." As he passed with a snicker, she smacked the spoon hard against the back of his legs with an angry, "An' don't ye dare be sniggerin' at me kitchen help! This boy's a fine fair cook, an' I'd like tah see ye try an' prepare skillydough as well as he did."
