What is the problem with breeders?
They take rat breeding seriously, unlike pet stores, and only breed from the very best parents and lines, and only a few litters each year. They also do not breed more than one, at most two, litters from each doe. In some pet stores they breed from the does until they die. If you buy from a breeder you have a knowledgeable person to talk to about your rats.
Also, there are very few Animal shelters in my country, because there is no big need for them, they usually have 6-7 cats and sometimes a dog or a rabbit so adopting a rescue rat is not really an option.

Breeders are perfectly fine to buy rats from, it's pet shops that sometimes mistreat their livestock, breeders are often the most reliable when it comes to getting a pair of ratties ^^.
Kazuya Mishima, sorry to hear about that ;_;
Sorry but I don't do commissions.

Wow, 5 years is a really impressive age for a rat

I don't have many reasons to hate rat breeders because i know most of them are people with good intentions however I don't like breeders who breed them for animal food, money, inbreed them or overbreed them. Where I live there is no rescue centers near me so I rescue my pets from free adverts off the internet or from news papers and choose wisely, my guinea pigs were being rehomed by a breeder because they were no-longer needed and were getting no attention, my old rats were never cared for by their old owners who got them for their children and were living in a tiny bird cage, one of them was almost wild when I recieved them. I just like to do my bit to help out animals I guess and don't see why people should constantly be breeding more and more unwanted animals.

Oh, ok. I do not really consider the people that breed for snakefood or money real breeders. I have thought about adopting rats from adverts on the internet, but I do not really dare. They might carry some serious disease that will infect and kill my other rats, or they might be very ill themselves, so that they need to be put down.

I don't introduce rats into groups of rats I alreafy own incase they don't get along so I guess I don't have that risk. I'm alqays careful not to get rats that will be put down also.

My rats are so funny. They were chacing eachother around and skipping. I decided to call them Marlo and Jacob :D

I have yet another question ^^'
Is there any real difference between Dumbos and Fancies, save for their ears. From my understanding they come from the same litters, but sell Dumbos to get more money, because they breed the Fancies for snake food. Is that true? And is there really a difference in temperament?
From my experiment, which was only one rat, the Fancies are a lot meaner, and the Dumbos much nicer. Then again, that's just one rat and I don't want to write off all Fancies.

All rats are fancy rats, dumbo rats only have different ears. Standard ear rats are just as sweet, I've never had a dumbo but my rats just adore cuddling and snuggling and licking, they're wonderful.
So, the only difference is ears.
