It was time for PE. They were playing Soccer today.

Malcom eyed the rugged terrain of the school soccer field and looked to the other side of it, where the rival team was massing around. They had decided that the class-long game should be a boys-against-girls thing. Each team was still preparing, and Malcom was trying to pick Reuben out of the crowd. He had to ask her to meet him after school.

Wait, he thought. Can't she read minds?

Hoping that he had heard her correctly, Malcom shut his eyes and focused. Can you hear me, Reuben? All he needed was some form of sign, a twitch, a look, a shout in his head.

Reuben picked up Malcom's strong thought wave, and she glanced at him for a second. Ya, why???

Kiwi shifted nervously and looked around at the players. She looked over at the boys team and dreaded what was to come. Soccer was NOT her sport. Plus all the boys were bigger and athletic. Why couldn't they play something she was good at, like volleyball?

Dark sighed and pased around. Soccer. Why soccer? He was ok at soccer, but not the best. He thought about football, his best sport, but quickly pushed the thought away. He'd probably just end up crushing the girls.

We need to talk. Malcom said. But not right now. Would you be willing to meet me after school? He prayed this would work. He had things he needed to say, not to weasel his way out of.

Whatever she replied. She didn't really like him that much anymore.
