Exactly. It's a depression.

Well, that's not entirely true. The extra Malk box has only been available once. Except this one year it has always been only one box with the adoption limit of two.

I wasn't around for any year besides this one and last, but were Malk pets rereleased in 2009? If not, then this would be the first year that we really had both in the same box ^^
However I can't really say anything since I wasn't there x3

Not because of myself, because I got awesome pets, a malk dragon egg and a malk owl egg (initially I reacted not as grateful about it, I admit, because I thought the Malk could turn into either the uncommon dragons instead of the rare ones, and that this year would be another one plentiful of rare pets for majority), but because the number of July pets, and even more, the number of the newest URs released this year, are very, very low.
If statistics by Firestar are right, I don't think there are even 100 of each of the new URs on the site, which makes them even rarer than the zebras. I've gone through hours of my time through IDs, and I don't think I've ever found 10 of each the cucumber and the UR lion. Same goes for the white julies and coon dogs, they seem much rarer than their more popular counterparts, the sun and moon puppies, but even those are pretty hard to come by. My point is, with only 200 of the newest URs released (and I would be hopeful if I said that's the number released), it won't be enough to maintain the big amount of people who are trying to get a full collection, and many will probably just stop and quit. Many of those pets must be in newbie accounts, and will probably never be found as a lot of people ignore the existence of the forums.
Anyway, if we wait until 2012 to release mostly only rare/very rare pets, my personal opinion is that it would hardly make a difference, since the lack of VRs this year will make people in the next year cling to their newborns, finally getting their wishlist pet after the letdown this year was to them. Basically, no trading would be done. We would be stuck in the same place. That's what I think, anyway, if anyone feels different, feel free to share it.
I also think that the base of the numbers was a bit too... high? Not everyone can get on, there's always several people who miss a day, be it because of school/job/being internet less, etc... And we just hit 200k members, yes, but if you go through accounts, even ones from last month or even this, you see a lot of them in which people never log back in, or they were abandoned after a short period of time. I think the number might have been a bit too enthusiastic... I don't really see the hurt of having a 2nd re-release, since not even half of people that was expected adopted. :C
