We all know. Nick posted it.
Nick wrote:The intention was for that present to be adopted 110,000 times, and that's what we based our numbers on. It turns out that it only got adopted 45,000 times in total.

The box has always had commons/uncommons in it. If it only had rare pets, the adoption limit would have to be lower, potentially lower than 1 pet per person, which would mean that we could not run the event. We can either release rare pets that few people get, or less rare pets that everybody gets. We cannot release rare pets that everybody gets.

'I see,' said the blind man.

More members doesn't necessarily mean more 'active' members though. People leave, some people make an account and never log in again. Given the nature of the season, there's also the possibility that a good number of people weren't able to get online for the day. Forgive me if all of that was already pointed out, but it's something to keep in mind statistically speaking.

But the fact of the matter is, the number of active members WILL go up... I mean, that's just how things work. As more time passes, more people join... and even if a number of them are inactive, we'll still have more active members. The site will constantly be growing.

I personally like the idea of having one more day this year where we can adopt 1 box, but I think the chances of that happening are slim. But next year I really don't like the idea of it being restricted to only 08/09 pets... sure, more people would get their "dreamies", but... it would wreak havoc on the site's economy.

I think releasing the box again is a fantastic idea, even if it's just one pet per person. Because even if the number of people adopting the box rises, the number of pets adopted shouldn't exceed the 110,000 prediction. Let's say another 45,000 pets were adopted - that's still only 90,000 in total. It would be extremely helpful to the economy, I think, to increase the flow of pets by releasing another box later in the advent.

I feel like re-releasing the box would cause more harm than good. Not only would the admins get people who were whining about wanting another re-release box next year (We got two last year! We want moar!), but it could also hurt the value of what very But I agree, it seems like the overall value of the pets people sre getting is going down. Last year, I got two UR pets. This year, I got a common/very common second gen and a random rare.

I have to agree
though I didn't get good pets ['09 rare and '10 common/uncommon] I still find that Dec. 18th was a success
there are a lot of cucumbers I have seen and plenty of '08 rares list pets
yes, a lot of people didn't get good pets, but some people did

maybe having the URs be randomly released like zebras for a couple of months, only with a higher chance of getting them, would be better, since everyone has a fair chance

just my two sense, so please, don't bite my head, I prefer having it intact with my body
My shop is closed for good, I have no use for this site or my art anymore. I'm not going to go into details about why I've been inactive and why I am quitting, but in short the word 'depression' has been thrown around a lot. I would go into more detail, but for the sake of the younger members of the site I can't. If you really want to know you can PM me by the end of the day.

Most of my linearts are being transferred over to editable oekaki for the use of anyone who so shall pleases to color in their characters.
It was fun while it lasted, but sadly my time here on CS is done.

I don't think it would cause more harm than good. It's true that users next year might want the box to be released again, but it might be wise to simply explain why if another box is released, and anyone who complains abound not having it next year is just not listening to why we did it.

I think that having a slim chance to get a UR for a dew months would be worse, as it would either need to be as unlikely as getting a zebra (less than 1%) or there would too many. When the percentage of getting the zebras glitches a few months ago, several new ones were adopted, even though the percentage was under 10% for only a small period of time after the litter was released. They would be far too easy to get, which rather defeates the whole UR rarity.

If this doesn't happen next year, and people are able to get their dreamies, why would they ask for another box? I don't think it will cause more harm than good. It creates a stronger flow of VR pets to sustain us for another year, it helps people get their dream pets, and stops all this dullness and sadness cast around the forums right now. I think the benefits outway the supposed costs ^^

It happens all the time. People are greedy. They think they're entitled to things, and I feel like this year a lot of people are acting -entitled- to very rare pets and such given out on the 18th. I think it's a privilage we should be glad to have and not ask for more. I've seen lots of cucumbers around, lots of July '08s on the discussion thread, etc.
Very rares are supposed to be very rare. If we all get one, hm, not so rare, is it?

Nick himself did say that they were expecting 110,000 pets to be adopted, and only 45,000 were. The balance is out-of-wack now because not enough pets were adopted. By re-releasing the box once more it can balance the pet flow even just enough to see us through to next year. Yes, there are still July '08s and URs floating around, but not nearly as many as previous years. Last year two boxes were released - the normal one, and a Malk one. The year before, the box was available for two days. The very rare pets still remained very rare then, so I don't see any major problem with releasing the box again.
Don't get me wrong, I am really, really grateful for the pets I've gotten this 18th. I did a lot better than others, even if I was disappointed at first.
