I think CS needs to rethink how they do the 18th releases. It is really sad seeing how many people got disappointed with commons & uncommons for their 18th pets, I didn't get anything really amazing with my adopts but at least I got an 09 rare dog so I'm not complaining for myself, so many people have commented on how upset they are over the 18th pets & that it has made them so disheartened they are considering giving up CS. The 18th was talked about for ages in advance as the major event of the CS Christmas, the chance of getting really rare, hard/next to impossible to trade for pets, and the newbies chance to have their dreamies, yet so many people didn't even get a recent rare. This is the first time I have ever questioned the way CS does things, in most cases I think CS & the staff are wonderful, but I think this policy of some users getting gifted OMG So Rares & UR pets while others get commons & uncommons is awful, this is Christmas, & many users here are children, a games Christmas gift shouldn't make people feel depressed & overlooked, I would love to see the CS users to go back to the excited people they were in the lead up to the 18th

it's not the staff's fault its just the user get totally random pets, it's not planned if a user gets a ur or a common

What you have to remember is that if CS gave everybody a UR or OMGSR, or even a Very rare or rare, then the rarity would change to common anyway. There would be no valuable pets.
But I do agree. I've seen people get two recent uncommons and it is a little unfair. On the other hand, I've seen people get two valuable pets. It is like that. It's just... luck.

But you have to think, not everyone can get a really rare pet. It would ruin the CS economy. Commons and uncommons have to be released otherwise it won't be special to own a VR pet anymore, because everyone will have one.
I got two recent uncommons. I was disappointed, yes, but I traded hard to get the two pets I really wanted for the 18th and now I have them. C:
You also have to take into account that Nick released the pets in the way he did because it was pedicted that 110,000 users would adopt when in fact only 45,000 did overall. It was a mistake, and this will be taken into consideration next year. Don't fret about it. ;D

UR pets were given out as pat of December 18th, you had a chance of adopting one from the big box.

Adopt from the Dec 18th box (yesterday) and get lucky.

There was actually a post about this; they expected 110,000 adopts when there were only 45,000. It's never been this tricky in past years.

The intention was for that present to be adopted 110,000 times, and that's what we based our numbers on. It turns out that it only got adopted 45,000 times in total.

The box has always had commons/uncommons in it. If it only had rare pets, the adoption limit would have to be lower, potentially lower than 1 pet per person, which would mean that we could not run the event. We can either release rare pets that few people get, or less rare pets that everybody gets. We cannot release rare pets that everybody gets.

Thanks for that Hekomi, I hadn't seen that and it does explain a bit why so many people got commons & uncommons.

I'm not saying everyone should get an OMGSR or UR, I fully understand that would just turn them into commons/uncommons, however maybe instead of one mixed box there could be two boxes, one with pets valued rare & up & the other with commons & uncommons, that way it wouldn't be so hugely lopsided, everyone would be guaranteed to get at least one rare & one common/uncommon

Honestly, that is a very big mistake, especially with a few years of experience under the belt. Everyone who adopted could do so again and Nick's expected user number still wouldn't have been reached. I'm not saying I know how to estimate the numbers or the formula used, but it had better come under close scrutiny now. I don't mind the uncommons, that needs to happen, but it's a shame that there's no way to even things out mathematically. Such as having users "adopt" the box in advance, and have it generate the outcome on the day, so you know exactly how many rares, etc, can go out and not miss such a huge gap. It could be a simple scale issue which is causing the problem. If there were say, half the pets set to common/uncommon for 110,000 players, but there are only 45,000 adopts then there are an awful lot of uncommons/commons chances in that box.

But who knows, I don't know how the randomness is done and I don't have the time to read over 300 pages of posts to see if others do. It could factor each pet in only once per box adopt. I am happy at a chance and glad I got things I don't want so I can trade them.

It makes me feel bad for the person I brought over to the site to tell them that joining so would rock so that they could have a chance at starting out with something they could love or trade. xD They couldn't adopt for being too new, and here the site was, not even close to the expected number of adopts, so I can't even tell her that it was so old members all got the chance to adopt before her. But hey, what can you do? That's the peril of coming late to the party!

I do like what the user suggested above, concerning two boxes. Even with rarities getting lowered and all that- to be honest it shouldn't be about being able to say: Hey, I am so elite that I am one of 957 people out of 45k that has this. I always thought the point was in collecting all that you could, not that special feeling you get knowing you have what others don't and want.

Edit: Heck, I wouldn't even mind if there was an 08-09 box and a 10-11 box to adopt from. At least then I'd know I'd get a common/uncommon/rare from 08/09! That might make people feel better, even if what they got isn't rare.
