Ale lifted his head and sniffed the air. Thrush, rabbit, mouse, vole, fox. Fox? He shook his head vigorously. Didn't matter. They were all stale. He moved a few paces, then tried again. Shrew, rat, owl, robin, frog. Stale as well. Ah, there! Fresh hare scent. The red tom smirked, then shifted his haunches, positioning himself. He gave a low hiss, attracting the attention of Static, who was a few feet away, their earlier catch of a fish under her paw. She gave him a curt nod, then picked up a nearby stick, looking over at Foxpaw, who nodded towards a bush. She threw the stick, and the hare came running out, the tom pelting after it. It veered sharply to the left, then to the right, trying to escape. The apprentice was at it's heels, but never quite in reach. So busy was it trying to evade him, it hardly noticed as it ran into Lightningpaw's claws. Dead in seconds. They grinned at each other. Being in a clan had not changed their habit of teamwork when hunting. They tended to bring in much bigger hauls working together, and missed little game.
