Opinion on RACEHORSE SLAUGHTER.

Im against it. End of. Horses are beautiful creatures and very intelligent. Imagine the fear they go through when they are waiting for their end? No. Slaughtering should be made illigal. And when people are saying "Give it for a zoo animal to eat" Thats just wrong.Anyway I believe all horses can be changed. My share horse was practically totally headshy and now I can stroke his face completely. No horse I dont think is abused and broken beyond repair. If people know anything about horses I think they should know this. If the Horse was in pain then it should be Put down HUMANELY! OK? No slaughter whatsoever

Horses brains are actualy quite small in relation to the size of their heads and most of their brain used to find ways to escape predators. Thats not to say they arent inteligent, but they arent the most brainy of animals. Why is intelligence and beauty are reason notto slaughter an animal? Horses are beautiful yes but they are other beaustiful animals that are killed for meat/fur.

There are hundreds of charities for ex racehorses, but they cannot physicaly take in every racehorse, they have to take in ones they know they can rehome. Incase you havent noticed, money is tight and charities are finding it hard to rehome and care for horses.Most racehorses arent slaughtered. Have you been to a racing yard or slaughter house? If not then where do your facts come from.

And im not a horse hater, I love horses and when im older im going to racing school to become an stable lass. The one day im going to take in an ex racer(When i know how to look after it properly). Also i do not eat horses either.

heres what you guys don't get there are no horse slaughter houses in fact there is no demand for horse meat in the us or anywhere else it is not a wanted item. in fact slaughter houses won't even take horses to slaughter because of the food and drug administration which doesn't allow the slaughtering of sick animals due to the risk of contamination of the meat. most horses if in bad health and can not be saved re put down humanly. the meat is not in demand and more then half of the us's dog food is made of lamb and chicken. and another thign throughbreds are very very highly valued even if they aren;t race horses they sell for alot of money. it's not there racehorse lineage it's that hey are good for all kinds of competitions not just racing. they cna be used in show jumping and dressage.

although the arabian horse sells for more money then the throughbred horse even though the arabian was used to influence the look of the throughbred it still costs more then the throughbred to obtain.

theres no real money in slaughtering a horse thats why it's not done anymore.

i am sure it's done in third world countries but here in the us nope. the meats not in demand in the us becuase we consider horses pets.

again who in the us would eat horse meat besides dogs. explain to me how it can still be going on when obvioulsy more peopel now a dys are abandoing ther horse on empty lots then sending them to slaughter. a 22 year old girl on the news abandoned beautiful white arabian horse becuase she couldn't afford the vet care. i've only heard of people abandoning horses rarely ever do you hear of horses beign slaughtered in the us becuase it's not an issue if it was an issue an dit was wrong then people would be makign abig deal out of it but there not.

if you really loved horses you would be for the putting down of really sick animals that couldn't walk or move or had bad burns on them i would want to put thme down becuase thye couldn't be saved. if that was the only option i would take it.


ehh i don't care anymore about the slaughter france is buying our meat anyway. the us didn't rally ahve choice mainly because of the bad economy.

well since i now know that it's legal again i guess it's fine with me i mean i don't own a horse it's not effecting me but what irks me is that stupid 22 year old girl who ent out and bought a horse and couldn't afford to pay for the vet care just to get his elbow healed it had small it infection that coudl have easily been taken care.

i love horses but as long as they don't slaughter sick horses that have dangerous diesease tha tcould make our pets sick then thats fine with me cause you never what eating contaminated meat could do to our dogs. they put horse meat in dog food.

I don't really agree with good, young, strong horses being slaughtered. I'm ok with the older ones.
But as i said before, if you really care about your horse you have to make deisceions on whats best for your horse. If i had to decide that, i'd send my horse to slaughter.
But we need to find other ways to use our young homeless horses.

well i didn't say they had to be young i was talking about slaughtering older horses too as long as they wheren't sick with some deadly diesease

young horses can be used for other things like being cute and fluffy pets.

lol, I really think, since the US does have a problem with too many horses that are being let loose, the government needs to find a use for the younger ones that can be used.
The older and injured ones, or ones that have no quality of life left, need to be slaughtered and put out of their misery

Racehorse slaughter is something that has increased in this faltering economy, since most small-time racehorse owners don't have the money to keep a horse that isn't productive. There are a large number of these horses and they require special retraining, often costly medical expenses are involved, and so in general they are difficult to re-home. The thoroughbred is a temperamental horse, given all the arab blood, and abuse sometimes seen in small time racehorse facilities in some cases causes so much psychological damage on these delicate horses that it's extremely hard to handle them.
Many horses are saddled much too young, way before the ideal 2-3 years. This can cause all sorts of physical problems, not to mention the risk or injury on the track itself.

In some cases, when injury of either the body or psyche is involved, I can understand the slaughter. What disgusts me is that horses are allowed to get to this point. Horseracing, the "sport of the kings", has run downhill since the time of the last Triple Crown winner, Affirmed in 1978. People have lost interest in it, it is harder to win good money.

I don't agree with horseslaugher of racehorses, but we have to look at what lands the horses in the slaughterhouse and tackle that, not try to rehome all the horses, that's impossible.

I dont think it matters what kind of horse it is being slaughtered.
Theres a million in the world, if a race horse is sent to a slaughter house, all is fine.
However, they should atleast be slaughtered humanely.
By humanely i mean dyeing in atleast minutes. 20 minutes or longer is just cruel.

But, just because some people wouldnt think of eating a horse just becuase where you live it's not common and horses are 'baeutiful' and for that or those reasons only, doesnt mean it's wrong.
It IS wrong, how ever, if they are killed inhumanely.
