Salem stalked through the forest, his eyes alert, his mind racing. He looked up at the waning moon: he hadn't forgotten that tonight he was supposed to meet Emerald. The only problem was that he wasn't going to the clearing. Let her wait for him there- that is, if she even came- he couldn't bear to see her after he had almost killed Peter. He was better fed now- only on animals, of course- because he feared he might loose it again. But he was still on a strict diet, guilt only lessening the food he ate.

Emerald frowned and twisted the leather bracelet on her left wrist. She looked up at the moon, second guessing her judging. Maybe she had got the date wrong. She sighed. No that wasn't it. Maybe Salem had gotten lost, though she highly doubting. Her eyes went wide for a moment as panic rose up in her chest. What if Salem didn't want to see her? She could feel her eyes burning hot with the threat of tears. The thought of being brushed aside like that made her want to cry after all that happened with Peter. Just a few days before they had had enough of each other and called it quits. Since then she hadn't had much of anything really. He had been her best friend, brother, only companion. But not anymore. She swallowed and pushed the irrational thoughts away. She didn't know why she cared so much. He was just some stranger, but something deep inside her told her she was wrong about that. He wasn't just a stranger. She didn't know exactly what to call him, but stranger wasn't the right word.

Salem debated with himself roughly, pausing to lean against a tree. He wanted to see Emerald; he felt a strange connection to her as if he had known her hundreds of years ago in his past. He knew it wasn't rational to long for someone's presence so throughly, but he caved in on himself and doubled back on his tracks, turning in the direction of the clearing. He took his time, still worried that she would be angry as she had right to be. But a remote part of him urged him onward and he reached the designated meeting place when the moon was directly overhead in the sky. He saw her standing there, ached in moonlight, and he crossed the grass to her, holding his head high despite his inward anger at himself and guilt. "Emerald," he murmured, knowing she could hear him in the still of the night. His golden eyes were both cold and warm, fire and ice. He felt himself relax, as if he had been waiting for this girl his entire life. This feeling both puzzled and pleased him.

Emerald looked up when she heard Salem's voice. It both startled and comforted her. She felt her shoulders relax and her fists unclench as all fears of him not showing up were washed away. She smiled, a relieved breath escaping her. "Salem." she replied, the happiness almost choking her. She took a step forward and felt the overwhelming urge to hug him, though she didn't. She didn't want to scare him off. She looked up at him, her eyes searching his and her smile growing a little bigger. "I was wondering when you would get here." she said quietly.

Salem could sense her happiness at his arrival, and it washed some of his fears away. It also confused him, however, and he paused before her, looking down at her with a curious expression etched into the map of his face. One of his darkly tanned hands reached for her, but stopped in midair. He wasn't a very touchy-feely person, and it seemed a silent promise between them to respect each other's space. "Aren't you angry at me? I am very sorry I let myself get out of hand." his golden eyes were sincere, and not at all uncomfortable that he was showing weakness.

Emerald's stomach fluttered a little as she saw his hand reach for her. She wanted it to continue forward but she didn't show any disappointment that he stopped. She frowned slightly as he spoke. "I was." she admitted quietly, looking down at the grass. "But...I..." she took in a deep breath as she felt the threat of tears burn her eyes again. She pushed them back and looked back up at Salem. "But Peter's being a butt face. He deserved it." As soon as she said the words though a small pang of guilt fired in the back of her mind. As angry at him as she was, she knew she still would of protected him. But he wouldn't of cared no matter what she did. The anger and pain extinguished the guilt "I should of let you eat him." she muttered with a small giggle. She sniffled a little.

Her words cut at Salem, and he knew this wasn't right. After a quick hesitation, he violated his own rules of space and wrapped his arms around Emerald, pulling to his warm chest in a awkward but clearly friendly hug. He patted her back, pushing away his uncomfort. "What did he do now?" he asked knowingly, releasing her and sitting down in the grass, crosslegged.
