"Shadowfall!" Fernstar scolded. "You're supposed to be behind those brambles. Gingerflight, Puredust, Morningpaw, and Desertsand have got it. Now follow Nettleshine and Tricklestep!"

Shadowfall nodded and followed Nightshine and Tricklestep

The fox tore after the kits. Fernstar jumped in front of it and she was thrown into a nearby stream. With nearly all the life knocked out of her, she pulled herself up and thrashed at the huge canine and fell down. She was on her last life. As she lay motionless on the ground, Gingerflight's ears grew hot. She knew her mother was on her last leader's life. "No! Fernstar!" Gingerflight rushed towards her floppy mother.

CougarPelt went to fernStar, DewKit follwoed

"Fernstar!" Iceclaw yelled out of the nursury, "NO!"

Nightwing heard the commotion inside camp and left Eaglefire to see what had happened. Then she saw her mother. She looked dead on the leaf-bare ground, with all the life and blood draining out of her. "What happened?" she yelled and rushed as speedy as lightning towards the crowds of cats around the old leader. Nightwing looked to her sisters Gingerflight, Dapplebelly, and Nettleshine. "What has happened here?" she demanded angrily. Sagefur nearly fainted at the sight of his mate. He loved her so much! She couldn't just die! Pumpkinwish threw the fox into the rocks of the High-Pile, killing it instantly. "Mother!"

Iceclaw ran oiut and to Fernstar. Her kits followed, "Fernstar!" She said devestated

Raspberryleaf returns to camp and sees her mother. She chokes on sobs and runs over. "Mother!" she yowls.

Tricklestep runs over "Fernstar?" he asks.

Morningpaw runs over and sniffles "She's losing her last life..." she murmurs
