Sorry to hear about another hamster, but she isnt hurting anymore so...

I was actually looking at buying a Habitrail Loft instead, and put plenty of toys and wheels in their too! My sister is looking at buying Roborovski's but I think I am going to get a syrian.

I would not advise any cage from Habitrail, at least not the OVO or Loft models.

I would like to join the club!

Well, I own lots and lots of hamsters over nearly 6 years (about 60+ I think) and it would take too much space to name all of them. For the current ones their names, age, gender, and breed are as follow:

Truffle- 6.5 months old, Female, Dwarf Russian Winter White (spotted normal)
Eringii- 6.5 months old, Female, Dwarf Russian Winter White (spotted sapphire)
Scarf- 3 months old, Male, Dwarf Russian Winter White (spotted normal)
Sketch- 3 months old, Male, Dwarf Russian Winter White (pearl)

I know the colour sounds a bit wierd, but that's the colour available here.

Truffle(the big one) and Scarf. Don't worry, I separate them after the picture was taken.

Why wouldnt a habitrail cage be good? Also, apart from the cage you suggested can you reccomend any other cage?

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm very near you guys at all (I live in Thailand BTW) so some cage are not available here or only available in my country. For my own hamsters, I use a bin type cage that can be bought in some pet shops including the wire top. Most of them look like this.

I cannot remember the exact dimensions, about 15"x20"x8" or so. This is the size I use for 2 dwarf(if they can live together) or young syrian. We have another size about half as small, use for young dwarf. For full grown Syrian hamster, I use a bigger handmade one.

I found it easier to clean than wire or plastic(acrylic) cage and keeps the bedding in, and there's no way the legs can be caught between the bars(I saw many hamsters injured their legs when they climb on the wire cage, so I'm afraid to use it)

I cannot give much advice here, but hope it helps ^^.

Thanks guys but my parents wont let me get a bin cage. They want me to get the loft, can you think of any proper cages rather than bin and fish tanks ect?

^^ Gorgeous hamsters, I've always wanted a winter white hamster, they're addorable.

Looks like I'm about to loose yet another hamster.
My Syrian Magic has got what looks like bloody diarrhea, she is lethargic and definately not herself. She does seem to be in pain as she's reluctant to move around her cage. She'll most likely be going to the vets tomorow and I'm hoping they can help her. But the truth is I doubt they'll be able to do anymore than give her antibiotics which probably won't help(they didn't help my other hamster who died a few weeks ago). So id much rather she was put down, its sound horrible but she's.an old girl and id hate seeing her in pain.

Magic is my first syrian and I adore her, I hate seeing her so ill and frail. I was stroking her in her cage earlier and she fell asleep , it was so cute. She's over 2 years old and has been aging badly, her fur is thinning and she's become very sleepy. She's also not eating much, and normally she's the greediest animal in the house, with cheek pouches full to the brim!

I wouldn't recomnend the rotastak cages for syrians because I've found the can be too small for them and can be fidly to clean. However I think they're ok for dwarf hamsters.

I would just like to say that I will be getting another cage and hamster. The cage that i WILL be getting is the ferplast mini duna, i had this cage for Hammy and my sister has one two. I think this is a great cage and would recommend it, I will be getting alot of toys and tubes for the hamster!

Yeah, we've already agreed that if there's nothing the vet can do then we will ask them to put her to sleep.
