How do you fill in a figure without the whole background going the same color?

Depends on what layer you select. :3
If you select the "color" that's under the "lines", it will automatically color everything. So I suggest that you draw lines, duplicate the lines layer, put it under the first lines layer, name it "color" and fill it! Hope that helps. :3

If you take a look at your profile, you can see a link to your oekaki gallery, "My gallery", all your (posted) oekakis can be found there. :]
If you meant how to find your unfinished oekakis, they should be there under the drawing area when you go to open oekaki again.

Do they show up when you go to oekaki as little images under the drawing area? You need to post them for them to appear in your gallery. :3

Alpha lock locks transparent pixels, which practically means that you can't add or remove anything while it's on, only colour on the area already made. It's really useful for editables and such when you can colour without going out of the lines. For lock alpha to work one needs to use transparent layers for the coloring area, usually also multiple layers. :3 Lineart on one layer, colouring on the other and so on. All new layers you make will be transparent, the one when you first open oekaki is filled white.

A lil' tired right now so excuse me if I said anything funny. u__u;;
