Skyclan had once been a great clan that every cat knew, far and wide. The clan was massive, taking on the size of hundreds of cats that not even the leader could name. All of the clan members were loyal and made sure that the daily duties were done, despite the massive size in the clan. Danger was all around, although there were multiple powerful cats to deal with the threats. On top of that, they had a magnificent, brave tom as a leader, and he went by the name of Ashstar.

Tragedy struck one day, the day that the clan cats would remember for the rest of their lives. The main medicine cat, a she-cat that was slightly soft in the head, decided that it was the clan's destiny to have a different leader leading the clan. This cat, of course, was the cause for the destruction of the clan's wondrous, peaceful life.

The cat went by the name of Snowspot before she forced the clan for her to go by Snowstar. She was... Well, power-hungry to say it the least. Her rule was that of an iron paw, and she was quite strict when it came to her laws. Any cat that did not believe in Starclan was to leave; that was one of her many rules. Multiple cats rebelled against the medicine cat, almost resorting to killing the once famed medicine cat. Powerful warriors tried to drive out Snowstar, but she had too many followers and any attempts were pushed back.

In a desperate attempt to escape the tyranny, many cats of the clan fled before Skyclan fell into ruins. Many cats made an attempt to recreate a clan, although the first few attempts failed into bitter ruins. Some cats resorted to the life of a loner or a rogue, leaving behind the ways of the clans. Desperate cats, at a last resort, turned to the soft life of a kittypet, something that a true warrior would never do. Other cats ended up dying in a mysterious massacre that happened in know well-known land... Those who were blessed with good fortune and favored by Starclan managed to survive the bitter life.

From the author:

Oh look. I'm not being socially awkward and quiet like usual. Yes, the long background information/introduction/thing was needed (Since background is oh-so important by the standards of today's language arts teachers), because it might end up becoming handy for those who become curious about the making of this story. Ah and I should also mention that this plot will be far different than the plot that I had planned beforehand. This story will also have a different list of characters.

Inspiration? Well, most of it can be credited to a role-play website that I used to go on all the time about two years ago. The website was an amazing website to begin with until things started taking a turn for the worst. There was an excellent leader and deputy in the first place until the owner decided that we needed a different leader, so the user that had been there slightly longer than the leader before her became leader. Let's just say that things didn't turn out the way.

With her new abilities and hierarchy as a website owner, the role-player decided to start banning people who didn't believe in a deity (Almost got myself into a peck of trouble for chatting with a person and saying that I didn't believe in a god). People started to leave, causing the website to crumble underneath an already unstable structure and ownership. I'm not going to further explain anymore knowing that I could bring up severed bonds that should be left alone.

So, all-in-all this story is mostly about my characters, new and old, that decided to go along on their own path. Some people, although I highly doubt it, might just recognize some of the characters in this story. Also, my apologies for the characters ahead of time; I had gone through multiple phases of being obsessed with tabby cats, savannah cats, and many other breeds while making the characters that I did.

Frequently Asked Questions

Postby TheTravelingWriter » Mon Nov 28, 2011 4:05 am

Frequently Asked Questions:

Just a section for questions that I come across a lot of times. This will also be a section for questions that were already asked by some fans that you may be curious about.

How long have you been writing?
I'm a beginner with a lot of luck. That, right there, was sarcasm, which I am fluent in. Anywho, I've been writing for about eight years now. I've improved drastically in the last few years since I decided to severe my bonds with friends over the internet (Which helped me out a lot in reality, intelligence level, and other stuff).

Who is your inspiration?
My writing style is greatly influenced by HP Lovecraft, who I absolutely adore even though he's probably insane. I grab inspiration by reading books that I enjoy (fantasy, fiction, historical, people like Charles Darwin, that stuff) and music that I listen to (By the way; Pandora Radio station is an excellent source of music, just to let you know). Some people in reality inspire me, although that often doesn't happen since there's hardly any uniqueness in my area, anymore.

How do you come up with your characters and their names?
They just... Er... Waltz into my thoughts uninvited, I guess. It's not like I can force them into the essence of their being; they just waltz in announcing that they're there (Or, in some cases, being stubborn and not wanting to full come into character).

As for names, I know a wide variety of etymology that I use since I've studied a lot of name websites. I also use name websites as a source of names.

Where else can I find your writing?
So no one ends up getting me banned on a website, then I might as well say that I will might end up posting this story on my DeviantArt and/or Fanfiction. It all really depends on how well I think the first chapter turns out.

How frequently do you update?
It depends greatly on well I feel and if I'm tired or not. Suffering from hyperthyroidism and an increased heart rate, I'm fatigued for the most of the day. Socializing and school also ware me out greatly, on top of that. All-in-all, I can't give you an accurate answer for that question.

Why do you act like you hate people?
I don't hate people... I just don't like having to socialize with people (Completely fine with domesticated animals; they don't care that I'm socially inadequate). On the topic of socializing, I should mention that if you have a question to ask me then feel free to... I don't bite... Unless it's a really stupid question like something that's already been stated beforehand in the FAQs. Also, be willing to accept a possibly witty or sarcastic comment; my language arts teacher is wanting me to be a sarcastic tone of voice in my writing to give myself a better, stronger voice.

What could I possibly critique you on?
My writing teacher (I'm in a special class called Young Authors that helps people become better writers) wants me to work on describing things instead of telling them directly to the audience (ex. "Bob was cold" is a direct description. "A brisk chill wind hit Bob, and he could feel goosebumps running down his arms" is an indirect description, which I'm trying to work on). So if you see anything like "Traveler's paws were hurting" then kindly (Or not so kindly) tell me that I used a direct description and, depending on how I feel that day, I'll see if I can fix it.

Prologue

Postby TheTravelingWriter » Mon Nov 28, 2011 4:07 am

Prologue

Silverpelt hung over a resting, dark forest as a dark blur careened through the forest, making its way with urgent speed. A single, blue eye flashed in the darkness as the three legged blur continued through the forest, dodging trees and hoping over fallen trees. Fallen leaves from leaf-fall clouded the path before the blur, which could now be made out into a cat in the faint light.

The cat halted suddenly in its tracking, breathing heavily from the recent chase through the forest. Her single, black ear twitched in the coldness of the leaf-fall night, and her only ice blue eye searched the bushes for any possible movement. Despite the fact that her back, right leg was missing, the she-cat stood with a certain grace that many cats feared.

Bushes suddenly rustled from somewhere to the left of the she-cat, and her gaze was immediately drawn to the location. She studied the bush as it continued to rustle, and she scented the air for any possible clues to what the rustling could have been caused by. The black cat picked up on a familiar scent of a cat.

Without even thinking, the she-cat pounced at the bush, coming in contact with a massive, light gray tom that she knew all too well. The two cats rolled down a hill together, coming to a complete stop at the base of a bare tree.

When the two stopped rolling over one another, the she-cat looked down on the gray tom, her bitter gaze meeting his orange amused gaze. Three nasty, thick scars ran down his muzzle, and the she-cat knew immediately who he was just from those three scars.

“Scarface,” the she-cat muttered darkly under her breath while backing away from the tom named Scarface, “you need to learn not to sneak up on me, especially in times like these.”

Scarface scrambled up on his paws and shook himself free of dirt, an amused look still on his face. His tail flicked as he stared directly at the she-cat. The she-cat, of course, did not look amused with the tom.

“I don’t need to stop sneaking up on you, Darkwing,” the tom mused while stepping up to lick the she-cat named Darkwing’s muzzle. “You just need to quit being so paranoid.”

Darkwing glared at her mate, her single eye blazing a blue fire. “And you should be as worried as I am in these times,” she seethed at her mate while continuing to glare at him, “especially when I just saw a strange cat near our location!” Her tail twitched in irritation although she knew that a simple gesture wouldn’t change Scarface’s emotions. “You need to learn to stay on alert, especially when near a Thunderpath and twoleg territory.”

Scarface sighed and shook his head, then took a step backwards away from Darkwing to give her the space she needed during times like these. “It isn’t like we’ll be running into any of Snowstar’s followers,” he mewed with a hint of reassurance in his voice. “They probably gave up on our trail the last time that they caught up with us.” Scarface’s nose wrinkled in disgust at the memory that was forever engraved in his memory. He would never forget Icestorm’s yowls of pain and agony that night. “Besides, Foxfoot has already checked in with some of the loners from around here, and they said that there hadn’t been any large groups of cats living in the forest recently.

Darkwing’s tail twitched in irritation at the mention of the orange, mottled tom. “You trust Foxfoot far too much,” she commented while flicking her ear. “He isn’t a credible warrior considering how kit-like he acts.”

“And that’s why I give him duties like socializing with other cats,” Scarface stated while walking past his mate. “It’s something that kits and kit-like warriors are good at.”

Before Scarface got too far away from her, Darkwing turned around to walk next to him. She stared up at Silverpelt as she walked; she was thinking of what the other cats had been talking about over the timespans that they had been in the forest.

“Have you thought of Foxfoot’s proposition of starting a clan in this forest?” Darkwing questioned while turning her attention back to Scarface. “It would be a logical idea, but I don’t think that we would have enough cats to help set up everything.”

Scarface paused in his tracks, and Darkwing paused next to him, staring at him. He seemed to be thinking, although the she-cat couldn’t tell what was on his mind at the time.

“What if we just left them to let them to make their own decisions for once?” Scarface inquired abruptly after a few moments of thinking. “What if we just abandoned them and let them decide without requiring our input.”

Darkwing gazed at her mate curiously, unsure of what he was saying. Why would they abandon their own group of allies and friends? They had gotten so far and, suddenly, her own mate was proposing that they abandon they group? She liked the idea greatly.

Trying to make herself sound concerned about the idea, Darkwing tried to put on her best, worried expression. “What about Crowheart?” she inquired as Scarface continued walking towards the Thunderpath with her mate. “Starclan knows how worried she would become if we didn’t return for a few days. Shouldn’t we bring her along with us? She is our daughter.”

Scarface flicked his tail for his mate to follow as he walked closer to the Thunderpath. “She’s one of the swiftest and bravest amongst the whole group,” the tom commented, remembering how Crowheart had been his first born kit. “I believe that she would be elected as the leader of the clan…” He paused for a moment then started walking once more. “If the group can get their wits together.”

The she-cat was more worried about their safety and the group’s safety. The two cats had been known as one of the greatest warriors in all of their old clan, although they were never truly recognized with a ranking of high authority. They were also the oldest warriors out of the group of cats, which left all of the younger cats to fend for themselves.

Yet Darkwing was so conflicted with the enthralling idea of abandoning the group and leaving them to defend for themselves. She had grown so tired of all the group having to rely heavily on her or Scarface’s input on an idea that she just wanted to escape from all of it. The feelings of being free from her duties were far greater than the worry that ebbed at her heart.

“It’s a marvelous idea,” Darkwing replied after a while. “But where would we go?”

By now, the two cats had traveled to the edge of the Thunderpath. Darkwing stared out across the dark Thunderpath, neither seeing nor hearing a monster in a dangerous range to them, towards the other side with waves of grass blowing in the faint breeze. She shivered slightly, feeling the idea that Scarface proposed starting to make her excited.

“Anywhere,” Scarface answered as he stepped onto the edge of the Thunderpath, “as long as it’s away from group of cats that we were originally with.” The tom continued further onto the Thunderpath, watching for any possible monsters coming from either way.
Without Darkwing’s realization, the she-cat found herself bounding after her mate across the Thunderpath. At that moment, she realized how little she would miss the cats that had followed her and Scarface around for such a long time.

Author's Notes:

I'll admit that this isn't the best prologue that I've done, but it's the best that I can crank out right now. I didn't want to do too much detail since I didn't want to give possible spoilers for the upcoming chapters, hence the reason the word count is below the average word count for chapters (I generally do about two thousand to three thousand words per a chapter if you wanted to know). Give me some time to work through writing; I'm still trying to get used to the viewpoint of a cat and how they would think.

Oh, both Darkwing and Scarface are sort of relevant to the plot line, and they're somewhat involved with the main protagonist, Traveler. Icestorm is also an important character to remember too.

Word Count: 1,265

If, by any chance, there is someone who decided to watch this topic out of interest, then I will make the comment that the first chapter will be up soon. For now, you'll just have to deal with the current character's information.

And I am very excited to announce that the prologue is now up. It really isn't the best in the world, but I'm pretty happy that I could crank it out with how I'm feeling right now.
