Actually, spelt is a type of grain (and according to Firefox spell check, it isn't actually a word- but Wikipedia says otherwise).

Spelled is the more correct past participle of the verb "to spell."

To answer the OP's question- pound openings are completely random. To my knowledge, it has nothing to do with advent.

Spelt-2. A past tense and a past participle of spell.

There are two different meanings to the word spelt. I know both of them and I believe that "spelt" is the correct word. It can be used both ways.

Just thought I'd say that the pound doesn't have a certain amount of times it opens, it opens once it gets full and closes when it's empty X3

The reason the pound seems to open more during the Christmas events and such are because more people try to cheat, and upon getting caught their pets go into the pound.
