Poor Aphrodite... I hate to add to the sadness but she's lost most of her weight and her claws are getting long and sharp, so she ends up cutting her face with them. She won't let me trim her nails and I have a rock in the cage she can climb on... any other ways to get shorter nails? And what are some fatty-filled senior foods I can get? ):

Ensure is a -great- diet supplement for old or ill rats. It is sold for elderly humans, you can get it a few places- wal mart carries it. Rats like the strawberry flavor quite well.

Wet cat food is also good, so is food like oatmeal and egg.

If you use peanutbutter, make sure it's watered down, or rats can choke and die.

I avoid it entirely or mix it with other food, like applesauce, so there is no chunks to get stuck.

Have you ever had a rat?: No, sadly but I think I'll be able to talk my parents into getting me a pair of them for a christmas gift. i've wanted them for almost a year now. And I figure weather i get my rats or not soon I figure this club will help me learn some more about caring for them,a nd I just love them :3

I have a question though, what gender of rat do you guys like better. I have been reading up on them and appearently the girls and more playfula nd the guys more lazy and cuddly, Im leaning towards getting girls but i would love some more options on it. ^^

I personally prefer boys.

They tend to be more laid back and snuggly, although mine certainly love to play sometimes. I have a doe as well (spayed) and she is all over the place.

The males do tend to be cuddlier in my experience. The females are more active.

I want to get some boys, but my parents don't like their "male parts". So if I were to get ratties I would have to get girls. Pfft. Nothing against them of course. :3
