At this moment it is far too late at night to get him to a vet and there's little we can do until morning. Do any of you know what could be wrong with him or how to help, he has been shaking and looks very sleepy. He has never shown any sign of illness before and I am very worried about him.

Please, please help I really am worried about him.

Ok, Ive used my local search engine and I think that he needs help A.S.A.P-I dont know whats wrong with him, but Im sorry to say he might be put down, and I think that your right-it's probably some sort of infection running in that litter of hamsters.

All the best, and let us know whats happening. :? :/

I've searched this up as well, and there are a few things that the description seems to fit, and they all should be seen by a vet... unless you already have taken him to the vet these past 3 days? Please do let us know what's happening, and best wishes.

We took him to the vet as soon as they opened, they told us he was a she!Even though we were originally told otherwise . The vet said she had a water infection and gave us some antibiotics, but said unless they worked then that was all they could do.They normally catheterize animals with water infections but on a hamster the surgery was just too invasive. Unfortunately she just got weaker and weaker even though we gave her the antibiotics. When i checked on her for the last time she was very cold and reluctant to move at all, so i put her in her bed and hoped she would make it. Unfortunately she wasn't strong enough and died in the night. :( We did everything we could for her but the infection was to strong for her. She was also nearly 2 years old so she was relatively old, not that it makes it any easier.

Thanks for trying to help guys.

iv just spent the last half hour at the vets and crying because when my sister had her breakfast blood was in Hammys cage because his tail had started to bleed, when we took him to the vets they said it was just old age. I stroked him and said goodbye and the vet took him away to be put down. He was breathing but incredibly slow. When i said goodbye he looked happy to see me but in alot of pain. He was two and a half.

RIP Hammyx

Also i just went to check on Stripe...he was alive this morning but now, hes dead. I have no more hamsters left

Aww im sorry :( But at least hammy is not in any pain anymore
My hamster , Magic, is 2 and my gerbils are both 3 and a half it can be hard when hamsters get old ,and its horrible when you lose them especially if they have to be put down.

I dont mind, you can keep them up if you want.

I do want to get another hamster but since i have 1 elderly hamster(2 years) and 2 elderly gerbils( theyre 4 next year!) im going to wait a while and concerntrate on them and my Degus them for now.

Yeah, that is strange how they all died in a short space of time. :?:

Yeah they seem to love gerbilariums :) Unfortunately both mine live alone because the gerbils they were living with have passed away , we cant pu them together because they'd fight:(

Thats really sad, but I think every animal lover would rather put them in separt cages, than see them fight!

Another of my old Hamsters died yesterday...and guess what...she was his sister! (Sister of Pedro... from the exact same litter... :()

And I advise Savic Cambridge for a Syrian Hamster and a really big glass tank or bin cage for the Roborovski but it would work for Syrian Hamsters as well, but you will need a taller tank/bin.
You can find pretty cheap ones and they are really big, for this specie I advise to buy some toys and a silent wheel. :)
