This is a neat idea.
May I just share our organizing system?
Our collection is first and we just have everything organized by year. So it's
2008
2009
2010
2011
KALI'S NURSERY
This is our entire collection minus the PPS's which are in their own group underneath.
Next are our favorites with ~around them~
Then our hoards and themed groups with ~~around them~~
And lastly random extras organized by species or artist with ~~~around them~~~

Keeps things nice and neat and works for us.

I use a more simple mehod, but I think I'll start using the spacers, thats a great idea!
Mine at the moment is just basically this:
I organize them by species. So it starts out with my basic species groups, and then special groups(favorites, holidays, etc), hoards, and lastly trade groups.
I have my basic species with *'s in front of them, special with no symbol in front of them, then my trade groups with ~'s in front of them.
You don't have to post this up there, its pretty basic, but you can if you really want to.

Nice guide! My groups need to be better organized, but at least I have them separated into pets, hoards, and trades. xD

Very good idea! This would have really helped me when I was starting off - I grouped all my pets according to name. Not something I recommend.

I just finished re-organizing! I'm proud of how it turned out. I used your basic idea and went with the 1', 1a, 1b, 1c, etc. method. I have few spacers: 2011 pets, 2009-2010 pets, growing, and special groups(hoards, trades, ect).
