Nakia (♀) and

Dillon (♂)
Nakia didn't mean to make mommy mad, she really didn't. But somehow she got mommy angry at her almost everyday. Due to this, she had gotten into the habit of staying away from the other kids, because she didn't want them to get mad at him like mommy did. It hurt when mommy got mad. So when the strange little boy came up to her at recess, she was immediately on her guard.
"Hi!" He said cheerfully. "Why're you all by yourself? You should go play with the other kids."
Nakia looked over at the other second graders kicking a ball around. "I'm fine here." She said quietly.
The boy shrugged. "Whatever floats your boat I guess. I'm Dillon, by the way."
She looked at him nervously. "...Nickia."
Dillon kept talking to her all through recess, and by the end of the hour she was talking to him too.
"You're kidding. You are SO kidding!" She giggled as Dillon finished another wild tale.
"No, I swear it's true!"
"Promise?"
"I SWEAR."
Nickia dissolved into laughter at the cheesy look in his eyes.
"Fine, I believe you." She gasped, prectically crying from laughing so hard.
"Finally!" Dillon teased. "Hey do you think I could see you later?" He asked hopefully.
"Well... I guess." Nickia said.
"Awesome! Come to your window tonight, I'll try and sneak into the house next door so we can talk." He decided.

Nickia pulled up her shutters and pushed open the window, staring hopefully at the darkness in the window of the other house. A ghost-like shape appeared and for a moment she was terrified, but then she realized it was just Dillon. "You scared me." She said, still a bit shaky. "You looked like a ghost."
Dillon seemed to find this funny, as he chuckled. "Yeah, I get that a lot."
Nickia didn't get what was so funny, but she let it slide.
"So are your parents home?" He asked curiously.
Nickia shrugged. "My mom is, but not my dad. He's on the road a lot."
"Oh." Dillon frowned, worried that he had upset her.
Nickia didn't get a chance to respond as her mother suddenly burst into her her room, screaming unintelligible swears. She grabbed Nickia roughly by the arms.
Dillon blinked, terrified. He tried to look away, tried to block out what was happening, but he couldn't do anything but watch the woman strike Nickia violently, crying silently.
When he finally pulled away and ran, screaming for help, he knew it was too late.
He stood miserably behind the yellow tape as the cops and nurses ran in and out of the house. He watched the mother being dragged away, still shrieking.
He watched the female cop reappear, looking sick, and asking her partner for something. He hurried off, and returned with a body bag.
Dillon sighed and turned away. His job here was nearly done.

Dillon attended Nickia's funeral. Somehow, he couldn't bring himself too cry. He gently placed the little boquet of orchids he had brought onto her grave.
"Thanks." A little voice sounded behind him. "Orchids are my favorites."
Dillon smiled and turned to face the voice.
Nickia grinned back at him, then hugged him tightly. "Thank you so much. For everything." She whispered into his ear.
Dillon hugged her back, then held her out at arms length. "I'm sorry I could help you more." He murmured.
She smiled brightly. "Well then, I guess you owe me." She said lightly.
"Coem on you two! We don't have all day!" A voice called.
Dillon and Nickia looked up to see a pretty young girl standing with her hands on her hips at the top of the hill overlooking the graveyard. The group of children around her laughed.
The two looked at each other, and then Dillon grabbed Nickia's hand and the two ran to the other children, not sure where they were going, but happy that they were going there together.
This is pretty much this exact story:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtNYA4pAGjI&ob=av3e but it touched me so I created a whole group in honor of it. This is just one of several pairs in the group

The others have different stories. If anyone shows any interest, I'll post them here
