Okay, I think this is going to have to be one of my favourite pet pairings. Beta are so CUTE!

The Tail Of The Eccentric Pair: Carmine (♀) & Markie (♂)

There was never was ever a pair
Who were stranger than them,
Carmine E'Claire
and Markie

She floated around like life was a dream,
Or to Markie, the dream itself, so it would seem.

He watched her for days
Months
Years
Oh how he adored Carmine E'Claire.

He would inform her of feelings, a thought suggested by Matt,
He would do so today, and that was that...

Markie had never felt so nervous in his life.
He meekly swam over to Carmine, carrying his fruit kebab. 'I hope she likes fruit kebabs...' he thought.
She was floating over a stool, sipping her hot chocolate. She never left home without her hot chocolate, even during last years 'drought'.

"Errrr... Hi, Carmine."
Carmine turned to Markie. "Oh, hello, Marcus. I was just drinking my hot chocolate." she babbled brightly.
Markie couldn't hide his smile. "I see. And you can call me Markie," he paused briefly and looked shyly at her, "Wanna fruit kebab?"
Carmine looked slightly shocked, "Oh, I could not, sorry Marcus. I am against cruelty to fruits."
"Oh..." Markie slightly wilted on the spot.
"However, I would love to have a fudge brownie right now. Would you like to come with me?"

I think everyone can guess Markie's answer.

Midsummer Night's Dream and Baton Rouge

I don't remember much of my travels. But I do remember one.

I remember the odd forests of my homeland, the deciduous trees constant lush appearance as the summer never died.
I remember the creatures, the faeries, the pucks and the dryads.
I remember the my life as I lived there.

I also remember the day I chose to leave.

I remember the day she came.

I remember running through the wetlands of my home and feeling the wind around me.
I felt a presence but could not understand it.

Until I saw her there, soaking wet and terribly lost.

The king looked down on his people, and forced a smile for them. He needed them to believe that all was well. Because for them, it was.

But not for him.

He went inside and was greeted by his queen, followed closely by his son. The newest addition to the royal family, his daughter, lay fast asleep in her cradle. They were the picture of a perfect family.

But still the king was not happy.

He seemed to have everything anyone could ever ask for - a beautiful palace, an even more beautiful wife, a seemingly endless amount of money... and yet, he would trade it all to be normal. He wished he could escape from the responsibilities of ruling a kingdom, and be free to live the way he wanted to. He wanted to walk the streets freely, without being followed around by servants or getting funny looks from his subjects. He wanted to get rid of that uncomfortble crown.

And most of all, he wanted to be able to marry whoever he wished.

You see, this perfect family of his was designed to be so. The king's men had gone out to find the ideal queen for him, one that could help to rule the kingdom and bear healthy offspring. The royal couple were then required to have at least two children, so that they would still have an heir if something were to happen to their firstborn. The king did not choose this. And if he had been given the choice...



It was getting late. The last traces of sun faded as a poor man closed up his tiny shop after another long, unsuccessful day. He had just begun to sweep the floor when he heard a quiet tapping on the back door.

"Now who could that be, I wonder...?"

I'm going to stop there for now, since I've wasted a whole hour on this already, and I think that's enough for one day. ^^;

I know this isn't a very original story, but I wanted to write it anyway. For some reason, the thought of writing about an unhappy king seemed very inviting... xD
