That's because a lot of the way the site used to work was newer members would trade off multiple newborns for older pets. A way to boost their collection a bit right from the start. Those same newborns can be easily traded back for later on once you've gotten your collection going a bit.
But things seem to have turned in a lot of confusing directions lately and nobody seems to want to do that any more.

I got several older pets through the adoption threads, as I read in a guide that it is a good way for new players.

Ugh, I sent someone a suggestion asking if they'd give one of a certain bunch of september list pets for two grinners and a bit more and they cancelled saying they only trade '08s for '08s O.o. Grinners are worth more than many '08s and the two plus a few '08 rares or so were probably a fair swap for one of those pets, I wonder if they would they have prefered if I'd offered them an '08 rare? XD It just annoys me when people do value the '09 pets on the rares list...

person sends me a very rare 2009 pet, they are coppa, but i send them a pm and get nothing. I tell them to change pets name so I know what they want, they cancel. I am not a mind reader and am getting mad that everyone thinks i am.

2 2009 rares equals one 2008 rare. 1 2009 rare equals 1 2009 rare. 3 2009 rares equals 1 2010 very rare. Plus uncommons, edit if needed!!! 7 rares, 5 uncommons, 1 unknown..

I canceled with 'No, it doesn't work that way. That dark leopard is at the top of the september rares list it's worth more than what you have offered. It's worth ALOT more. It's worth the black advent and almost worth the blue PPS dragon
