"You look thin – unnaturally thin." I touched her muzzle ever so gently. "Are you hungry? I know a meadow that had lush, new grass," I offered. And there, in our privacy, I can ask her if . . . if . . . if she wanted to join my band. I was definitely falling for her.

"Well, thanks for noticing it." Riversong said wryly, before she smiled again and returned the muzzle contact. "And yes, please. I'd love to go to this meadow."

I nodded nervously. "Great! Follow me, por favor." Making sure he was behind me, I started up a little hill. By the time we were over it, we could see a forest, a forest that stretched on endlessly. We walked to the tallest tree. "Just a second," I said softly. I crept behind it, checked for Ratatouille, and called her over.

Riversong cocked her head curiously. She then shrugged to herself. Stallions were a mystery to her. As always. Shaking her head, she trotted forwards. "What was all that about?" The mare questioned.

"Oh, I was just checking for Ratatouille. He's a grumpy old badger who'd love to yell at us for hours if he caught us this meadow. But rumor has it he's on vacation. Guess it's true." The meadow was huge. It seemed to stretch on endlessly, and a little stream gurgle along the center, cutting it in half. Grass so green my eyes hurt grew from the ground, some squirrels chattered on an old log over grown with moss, and acorns littered the ground around the trees. A fawn and its mother were drinking from the stream, but and they didn't act scared of us. There was just enough light to give that just-woke-up look to everything, a soft edge.

"What do you think of it?" I asked softly.

"It's beautiful." Riversong replied, her voice just as soft. "This meadow is just so full of...life." She marveled, eagerly trotting forwards. Slowly, the palomino mare leaned down to sniff the grass, the sweet smell filling her nostrils. Then she raised her head to watch the deer, her ears flicking gently.

I walked to the stream and drank, then turned around. "Willyoujoinmybandpleaseithinkiloveyou!" My words were slurred, and even I could barely understand what I was saying. "Will you join my band?" I tried again. "I . . . I think I . . . love you." I looked right down at Riversong as if she was the most beautiful, incredible, and kindest mare in the world. To me, she was.
