"You two don't seem to dislike each other's company, either," Marcel retorted, however he was unsure if she had heard his comment. The door slammed a split second after it was out of his mouth, and he closed his eyes, annoyed. Why had she left so quickly? He wished that he had been able to explain what had happened. It wasn't as if I even saw you at all today, he thought despairingly. She had been with Arthur the whole day, and nobody could just go up to the captain's quarters without permission. The worst part was that a small part of him wondered if she wanted to fight with him so that she could be completely free to go with Arthur; to have a clear conscience. I thought you trusted me, he thought, his heart heavy. Because I would never do something like that to you. He wished that he could tell that to her, but she was already inside, with him.

It had only been one day, and they had already fought. He found himself wishing he hadn't agreed to take her.

(Sorry I haven't replied yet. I had a friend over and have been drawing... ^^; )

Allegra let out a sigh as she entered the quarters, leaning against the door for a moment before glancing up at the room. She noticed Arthur had accidentally fallen asleep at his desk, sleeping with his arms folded across the desk with his head in his arms. She looked at him for a moment before closing her eyes for a brief second. As she opened them back up, she began to walk over to her little curtain room to grab a blanket.

My first real fight with Marcel... she thought to herself as she took the blanket and wrapped it around Arthur's shoulders. She knew that sooner ot later on the journey she would need to figure out who she did actually like. Arthur was a good man, but she had known Marcel ever since they were little. Without thinking, she leaned over and kissed Arthur on the cheek, but she suddenly realised what she had done and blushed a deep red.

Why can't I choose!? she yelled in her head as she walked over to her bed and closed the curtains behind her. Allegra undressed into her nightgown, pulling the blankets up to her shoulders and closing her eyes shut. The last thing she wanted to do was continue to doubt herself. She may of been angry at Marcel for earlier, but some of her anger had came from the duel with Arthur as well. She appeared to be shoving it on Marcel, and only now did she realise that she needed to choose quickly or she would lose Marcel completely. With one final thought of Marcel, Allegra closed her eyes and drifted off into a deep sleep.

It had been a week since their first argument, and Marcel hadn't spoken to Allegra since. He had only seen her once in that time, and she had been holding hands with Arthur on the top of the deck; he was unsure if it was for appearance, or if they were actually together now. And although he told himself that he didn't care - that he shouldn't care, it still effected him. After so many hours of over-analyzing every word they had said to each other, he had come to the conclusion that she had purposefully searched for an argument with him so that she could declare that it just 'didn't work out between the two of them'. And Arthur would be waiting there with open arms, he thought darkly one day as he rested his elbows against the handrail on the back of the ship. Though he was staring out into the vast open horizon, he wasn't really paying attention to the scenery. It was sunset, and the ocean was calm.

They had been making good time. The winds had blown well four out of seven days, and fairly decently two. Today had been slow, however; there had been barely a breeze, and the waves were very small. According to his calculations, they were making good time; perhaps they would reach the New World in a week or two, perhaps three depending on the wind.

He had only stopped to think about it that day, but what was he going to do when they got there? It was beginning to become more and more obvious to him that Allegra wasn't going to come back; she hadn't even tried to see him once in that time. She would most likely go with Arthur, and explore the world with him; instead of with himself, which had been the plan at first. I'll go back home, he thought vaguely. Then he stopped. Where was home? He had always imagined that his place was out here, but now that he was here, on this ship, he felt miserable. His homeland wasn't his home either; all he had ever known there was misery, when he had still lived with his mother. And Italy... How could he possibly ever go back there? His thoughts were interrupted, however, by a voice behind him.

"Hey."

He blinked, slowly looking sideways to see who was there. Jan stood there, her hat off, long hair on her back. "Aren't you supposed to be a man?" he said quietly, wondering if she had forgotten her disguise. People could clearly see now her true gender.

She shrugged. "I figure they're all too busy downstairs playing cards. And besides, Henry is here to defend me, and I suppose you would risk your life to save a maiden." Her tone was teasing, and she glanced over at her brother, who sat higher up on the deck on a barrel, his legs propped up on the handrail. He was playing a harmonica, and was watching them from the corner of his eye.

Marcel nodded to Henry; the two had talked many times since they had gotten on the ship. He was intelligent, and they had had many debates about different topics. He returned his gaze to the horizon. "I suppose so," he said evenly. "But what if the captain sees you?" She had declared that he would make her walk the plank if he discovered her secret.

"I don't suppose he would care, now come to think of it," she said mildly. A loud sigh came from her, and she rested her head against the rail, closing her eyes. "Don't you wish we could be there already? I can't wait to get onto dry land already."

He stayed silent. Truthfully, he was unsure if he wanted to arrive. This could be the last time that he would ever see Allegra, assuming she would go off with Arthur.

Allegra was sitting at the captain's desk as Arthur paced back and forth, his hat resting on the globe to the side of her. His hand was running through his hair before placing them behind his back once more. "This is so bloody irritating..." he growled, looking down at the map that was laid out in front of Allegra. She looked down at it for a moment, remembering that he had instructed her to practice on navigation. As she was able to pinpoint their location almost every time, something else was still on his mind.

"We won't be able to make it in time if we continue to sail like this..." he mumbled, making Allegra suddenly lift her head.

"For what? Is there something that you are running late for in the Caribbean?" she asked, lifting an eyebrow at him. Suddenly his pacing froze, and she could easily tell that his hands were balling up into fists behind his back. She was beginning to suspect something from him, especially when he would stop mid-sentence whenever it came to talking about his home in England. Finally, after a moment of stay in complete silence in his quarters, Arthur began to speak.

"Allegra, you are not aboard one of the Royal Navy's ships," Arthur started, letting out a quick sigh. "And I am no British officer... or at least... not anymore. I took this crew and ship into account for something completely different. This ship is known as a ship that can be hunted by the Royal Navy. You know these ships perfectly well I presume, considering your love for books that you've told me about. But... nevermind that. What I'm trying to say is that... this is a pirate ship, and I am its captain. You are not aboard any English ship, but rather a bunch of sailors under a single pirate flag."

Allegra stared at him with a blank expression on her face, unable to think of anything to say. She couldn't even begin to think up of anything, considering that he had lied to her the entire time, saying that he was under command of the king. Now, he told her that he wasn't under any nation's flag but himself. Allegra, after a few minutes of sitting there staring at him, flew up from the chair and walked up to him, pointing her finger in his face.

"So all this time you've been talking to me like we were on a Royal Naval ship!? But really... we are a bunch of filthy pirates! And you didn't think that I would have cared if I was on a pirate ship filled with ex-prisoners!? They're criminals! And I'm the only woman on this ship! You think that you can protect me, but really you're just like them!? When we dock, I am getting off this ship and leaving, you filthy pirate!" she yelled at him, finally slapping him across the face.

Arthur stood there with a shocked look, not even touching the forming red mark where she had smacked him. Allegra was heaving her shoulders up and down with fury in her eyes, before she suddenly turned around and began to walk away. "And to think that I trusted you," she growled behind her before walking out into the sunshine of the deck and slamming the doors behind her.

Allegra walked over to the steps that led up to the wheel of the ship, placing her head in her hands and trying to relax a little. There was so much stress on her shoulders since she got on the ship, and trying to act like a wife was bad enough. Now, she had realised that she was on a pirate ship, and it would only get worse from there. Allegra finally let out an irritated sigh, feeling on the verge of tears based on how angry she was.

Re: .:After the Battle:. (1x1)

There was a long moment of silence between them after Jan asked the question. Marcel stayed completely still, his head resting against his hands as he leaned against the side of the ship, his blonde hair swept up slightly by the slight breeze that had just picked up the last few minutes. The only sound other than the creaking of the ship was Henry's flute, and even that was faint as the wind carried it against them. Was he eager to get on land, as Jan was? She had her whole life ahead of her there in the new world; he knew that she was going to stay there, where the land was rich and new. But he... Silently he sighed, shaking his head.

I only came because Allegra asked me to. The thought that he had lost her made his heart ache. Going to the new world wasn't exactly his biggest goal, and he was well aware that he would be catching the first ship out of there to go back to Spain; a decision he had made in the last few minutes. "No," he said finally, his voice oddly muffled, and sadly he turned away from the beautiful sunset scenery, and faced the ship ahead of them. Leaning up against the side of the ship, he saw that there still were no men about; they were still downstairs playing cards and getting drunk. They would be staying down there afterwards, too; he Henry and Jan were in charge of the Night Watch that night.

As he glanced over at Jan, he had to admit that she looked beautiful. Her hair was down, and her long curls swept down her back. And although she still wore baggy clothing, it was still obvious of her true gender.

"Why?" Jan asked quizically, tipping her head to one side. "Aren't you excited to get to the New World?"

Marcel shrugged. "Truth be told, I'm on this ship not because of my own decision." He was tired of lying about Allegra and Arthur being married.

His answer seemed to further puzzle Jan. "Then why are you here?"

Silence. He didn't want to tell her, and his gaze returned to the wooden floor. If the secret got out that the two weren't actually married, Allegra would be in danger. And that's the reason I suggested it in the first place, he thought firmly. Even though Jan would be crazy to tell anyone if she discovered the truth about the two, in part it was the fact that he just didn't want to tell anyone. It would make him seem in a pathetic position, especially to her and her brother; the three of them had spent most of their time together since he arrived on the ship, and either could see that Allegra wasn't making any effort to see him.

Marcel drifted away from her, slowly walking up towards where Henry sat on the side of the ship, playing his flute. The music brought him back to that day by the pool, when he and Allegra had first kissed... I thought I had ruined everything that day, he remembered, half-smiling at the memory. Now, he was certain that he had.

As he ascended the steps up towards the top deck, he noticed higher above, in the captain's deck, Allegra with her hands on the steering wheel. For a split second he had the immature thought to hide from her, then he stopped, realizing how cowardly that would be on his part. Besides, he had no reason to hide. His heart ached at the sight of her, with her hair whipping in the wind, and how beautiful she was. But most of all, he hurt because he missed her. Missed her more than anything, because she had always been - since they had met, that is - the most important element of his life. He felt empty without her.

He silently turned away, however, before she could catch his eye. She probably didn't want to talk to him, anyway.

Allegra placed her hand on the wheel again as she lifted her head, looking around the ship. Suddenly, a flash of blonde hair had caught her eye. It was somebody that she had wanted to see for such a long time, but even her conscience had told her not do even speak a word to him. Still, being as upset as she was, there was a lingering hunger for her to go speak to him.

She sighed slightly as she allowed one of the other crew members take the wheel before heading down the steps towards Marcel. She didn't care about the marriage scheme for the moment, or the fact taht they hadn't talked the entire time that they were on the ship. Allegra only wanted to see him again, to at least be able to talk to him without fighting. She wanted to be in his embrace, to be in the same place that she had been back when they were in the forest outside of Fortuna.

Allegra suddenly grabbed his hand and tugged slightly, but not enough to hurt him. She only wanted to get his attention. "Hey... Marcel...?" she whispered, biting down on her lip hard as she waited for him to realise that it was her. She felt slightly awkward, but at least she would finally be able to talk to him again. She didn't plan on screwing up by yelling at him either. She wanted to apologise, and overall feel like she should fall in love with him again.

Marcel froze as he felt a hand grab hold of his, and pulled him back. He hesitated, knowing Allegra's touch without having to look over at her. Though he was startled that she was speaking to him, he was more surprised that she had come out of her way to approach him, much less touch him. I thought she had Arthur for that, a voice in the back of his head said. Then he stopped, because he knew that Allegra wouldn't allow Arthur do anything with her; she wasn't that kind of girl. It hurt him to even have a thought like that, and instantly he felt guilty, especially once he turned to face her, seeing the uncertainty that pooled in her eyes.

Without needing to ask, he knew that something was wrong; something was bothering her. What had happened? The question burned in his mind, but he didn't ask. If I find out that Arthur hurt her... He wouldn't allow that. Allegra was much too dear to him, even if the feeling wasn't resiprocated.

He didn't take his hand out of her grasp for a moment, nor did he look directly into her eyes. Perhaps it was because he feared that she would see how hurt he really was, or that he would just see how little affected she could seem by all of this. "Hello... Allegra," he replied, his voice quiet as hers. "How can I be of your service?" His tone was almost challenging, though mostly dull and life-less, as if all the happiness had been sucked out of him.

Silently he tossed his head slightly to get the blonde hair out of his eyes, as he waited for her to speak.

(Lol this is sort-of a fail, sorry Dx )

Allegra opened her mouth to speak, but then closed it asgain as she remembered that they were up on the deck, where anyone could see them. For the fact that she was technically Arthur's wife, seeing her with somebody that wasn't the captain would be a bad idea. Without thinking any further, she took Marcel's hand again and began to drag him towards the stairs that led into the lower decks. "We can't talk here..." she whispered slightly, feeling chills go up her arms as she merely touched him again. It had been so long since she had so much as talked to him.

Allegra led him through the lower decks, making sure that she was quiet to avoid any of the other sailors who were sleeping or getting ready to sleep for the night. Even if it was only sunset, the people who were going to take the night shift would take care of the ship. Allegra, having learned the entire layout of the ship from Arthur, easily found the cabin that Marcel had been staying in. She walked inside, letting Marcel walk in with her before shutting the door behind them.

The room, in her opinion, looked so small compared to the captain's quarters. But in truth, it was also nice and cozy. A small little cottage... even if it was on a ship. Allegra inwardly shook her head from those thoughts quickly as she looked up at Marcel, using all her strength to fight back the tears. "Marcel..." she whispered, looking down again and biting her lip down hard enough that it began to draw a bit of blood.

"What I want to say to you is that I'm sorry. I'm sorry for all of this. I-If I had known... if I had known that during the trip over here I wouldn't be with you, and we were on a ship full of pirates that could damn well bring us to the wrong port, I would never have allowed this. I... I-I miss you Marcel... I'm sorry for yelling at you when I should have been yelling at Arthur. I'm sorry that I haven't seen you this entire time... b-but I haven't gotten the courage to tell you until now. Marcel I..."

Words were pummeling out of Allegra's mouth, and by then her battle with the rivers from her eyes had lost. She felt tears stream her cheeks, to which she placed her hair in front of them to mask her red face. She didn't want to cry in front of him, but with her constant talking she couldn't bear holding it in any longer.

(No it's not D: )

Marcel didn't have a chance to think things through as Allegra took his hand again and began to drag him through the deck and down the stairs. As they passed by the door where most of the crew was, he narrowed his eyes as he heard crude laughter and smelled pipe smoke through the door. If they knew that a woman was passing by their door, he was sure that all entertainment would be completely abandoned. He couldn't help but tense up a little at the thought that against all of the men there, he wouldn't be able to defend her. What was she thinking?

She had mentioned in disgust that this was a pirate ship. The thought made him click his tongue; he had known it since the moment he had seen the ship. Obviously Arthur had just told her the truth to the lie recently, and it seemed as if they had had a fight. The idea of them arguing would at any other time make Marcel slightly hopeful, but now he couldn't find it inside of himself to feel that relief. As she pulled him into his room and shut the door, he took his hand out of her grasp slowly, in a way that wouldn't offend her.

He listened to her apologies, and after she had finished, with the tears streaming down her face, he had the sudden urge to say something that would further strengthen the pain and sadness that she was experiencing. He half wanted her to feel hurt in the way he had when she had gone off with Arthur. But when he looked over at her again, seeing her trying to contain the tears that now flooded freely from her eyes, he was brought back to all of those times he had comforted her. No matter what had happened, he realized, his feelings for her had not changed, and he would always be there for her. Nothing could change that.

"Allegra, don't..." Marcel's voice trailed off, and he inwardly cursed as he tried to think of something - anything to say that would stop the tears. He couldn't bear to see them. Not caring if she would reject him, he took a step closer to her, and gently wiped away a tear that was streaking down her cheek. "Don't cry," he murmured. He didn't know what she was going to say, but was terrified if she was about to tell him that she loved Arthur. Somehow, he had to stop her from saying the words that would break his heart.

In an attempt to lighten his mood, he shrugged. "And hey, if it makes you feel better, I knew it was a pirate ship since the moment I saw it back from the dock." His tone was slightly impressed, and in a way spiteful as he remembered, even back then, Arthur trying to steal Allegra from him. He had to give the man credit, though; he had take Allegra from him. He smiled slightly before saying quietly; "And no matter where the ship docks, there will always be others, I promise you. And no matter where your destination may be, there will always be a ship going there." That was what he had learned, those many years seeing nothing but water, and going onto land only to catch another ship. But unlike Allegra, his travels had never seemed to have destinations; he was just always going, not really caring where the tide would carry him.

There was a long silence where he did not speak; he just watched in pain as he saw those beautiful eyes cry. When it seemed as though she had calmed down slightly, he hesitated before adding; "Just like there will be a ship going back to Spain, for me." Not sure how she would take the news, he broke the contact between their eyes, and turned away from her. It wasn't that he wanted her to continue crying; he wasn't sure what he wanted anymore. I suppose I want her to know the truth. That this decision was made because I had no other.

The tiny window in between the beds reflected the dying sun, and gave the room a slightly golden glow. However, the light would be gone soon completely, and he would need to go for the Night Watch. To make himself busy, he lit a candle with a match, just so they wouldn't stay in utter darkness.

Allegra looked up as she realised what Marcel had said. He was... going back to Spain? She had imagined that he was going to stay with her until they finished the journey to the New World and headed back to Italy. But now... what he had told her made her feel like she was going to crumble into a thousand pieces.

"What...?" Allegra mumbled, her tears stopping for a brief moment. She had decided earlier that day that she wasn't going to stay with Arthur. He was a criminal on the high seas, and the first chance she got, she was thinking of leaving the ship.

"Y-You can't... You can't just leave..." she studdered one her words, unable to comprehend what he meant. After all the years of their childhood when he had rescued her from pirates at age 10, to bringing her to the formal ball in Fortuna on the night of her 18th birthday.

Allegra's face began to grow even paler, her eyes widening as his words continued to play in her head over and over again. "No.. Marcel... you can't do this..." She began to feel the tears escape once more, her hands covering her mouth. The last thing she wanted was for him to leave. He was the only thing that she had on the ship, the only one that she actually trusted.

"M-Marcel..." she whispered, placing her hands down on both of her sides. She looked back up at him and sucked in a quick breath before shaking her head. "I don't want you to leave... because..." Allegra stopped for a moment as she made sure no tears were coming from her eyes.

"I love you."
