Redfeather's misty face looked surprised. "You must be...Winter...tail..." he whispered. "I...am...brother..." Redfeather's final sentence trailed off as he faded back into the stars.

A small shadow flickered in the starlight, growing more solid my the second before swooping down. It was a bird who looked like a grown-up version of Sandtail, but with more green in her feathers and tiny black speckles on her chest.

"Sandtail. I've watched you grow, and I'm very proud of you. I didn't trust any of the Flocks when I was alive, but your CloudFlock has been very good to me and your brother, and the FireFlock has raised you well. I am Verdant, your mother. And if I had been alive, my children would have been Flower and Leaf. Alas, Leaf became Redfeather when we died. The CloudFlock named him for me." Verdant smiled sadly.

Noheart had returned to her tree, and relaxed lazily in it, catching herself from falling asleep quite a few times.

"Sandtail got into a fight with a stupid squirrel. I noted the squirrel had a small head and therfore a small brain." Chirped Wintertail. "Why don't you have a Flock N- Wait. Oh, yeah. You're so far the only loner that has actually been accepted into the Flock. I've never heard of others!"

Verdant nodded. "Yes. They say its because I had never vexed the Flocks and my daughter would be a FireFlock bird, and it would be cruel to send me to the Flaming Beaks," she chirped.

"However, I doubt I can say the same for my former mate...I knew him as Flame, but you might soon know him as Flamewing of the DuskFlock. After we split up, he somehow got accepted into their ranks as a Flock-Guard. I stopped watching over him shortly after that, so I don't know if he's still alive or not, still in the Flock or not."

"Yeah?" Asked the elder in a voice crackling with age. "What do you want with an elder from another Flock?"

"I hope Emberbeak gives you a flock name soon." Chirped Wintertail. Emberbeak was the leader of the CloudFlock. "But I don't really like Flamewing. He hurt Snowheart once."

Verdant simply grunted at the news of Flamewing. "Yeah, after we split up, I realized that he wasn't a good mate. At all."
