@Fae, that is up to you, I left it unexplained for you guys to decide.
@Accent, the ice cream was supposed to be a link back to that day in kintergarten. Her father promised if she didn't bring a friend home on a playdate, they'd go out for ice cream but they never did. It was supposed to be one of those nostalgic reflecting moments XD

As I have said before, your story is excellent! It has good characters, great writing and grammar (huge bonus), and a good plot. I liked the ending a lot too. One thing I was curious on: which dog is which? This is what I thought, but I wasn't sure:
