I am not a fan of restarting and shinifying up Doctor Who for a movie. David Yates has moved past the WHEE CAMERA ANGLES Order of the Phoenix movie that was my first exposure to him, but I really really don't like the concept of this. Roll on a movie with Paul McGann and Christopher Eccleston and the Time War, but don't rewrite classic Doctor Who. I like classic Doctor Who. It's classically terrible. It has adorably old fashioned context and lots of futuristic stories were set in the early 21st century. It is fantastic and we don't need to see it again with less cardboard.

I wouldn't mind a Doctor Who movie for new Doctor Who, but I don't really want one for old Doctor Who. Old Who is good as it is.

Starbase Typhon is a roleplay run by me, off site. It is Star Trek based (but not the new movies, as you will see) and it definetly needs people who are willing to be active, write with great grammar, and of course, are semi-literate or above. Format is play by Nova, which involves multi-person posts that are a different way of doing things that here of CS. But it's lots of fun, and we need long term people who will help us complete our missions. As the commanding officer of Typhon, I invite anyone who would like to give it a try to please apply! (Warning that quality of applications is strictly judged. Very strictly judged.) The link is in the image.

I think I heard something about it. And they didn't want Matt Smith to do it, I think? I have no idea, but that's just what I remember seeing at some point.

I agree -it wouldn't be Classic Who without the tinfoil. I would love to see more of Eight, and a movie about him at the end of the Time War could be good (his increased age could be easily explained as just him reaching the end of that regeneration, the same way it was with Seven). I could see it being something like Fires of Pompeii, with the Doctor trying to find a way to save everyone and then realizing that, not only can he not save them, but he's the one who has to pull the trigger. And because he hasn't yet met the force that is Donna, this time there's no going back to save someone. At the end, devastated by what he's had to do, Eight regenerates into Nine for a new start in life. That would be a Who movie I'd be interested in seeing. A rewrite of the original series to retcon it into the New Who style, doubtless replacing the old actors with younger 'hotter' ones and giving it fancy special effects? Not so much. The Star Trek rewrite movie was more than enough of that (Captain Kirk is William Shatner forever!), and I'd really hate to see older Doctors like One or Three shoehorned into modern times. If it was a Doctor Who restart, it would probably be going back to Gallifrey with One, and they probably wouldn't want him to be the old grandfather that he was originally, and I doubt they'd make him anywhere near as cranky or petty as One could be (or like any of the Time Lords could be, for that matter), and they'd probably want to make him more 'action hero' to be more exciting for a movie, resulting in a young cheery high-energy Doctor which is just so much not One.

Charmly bad stories are very nice, and they don't need CGI to make it better, because it loses the charm and actually ends up worse. I listen to a lot of old science fiction radio programs, and they are fun because they tend to be so very wrong with the future.

Now, if it was new Who, then maybe. If it was the time war like you said, then maybe. but leave the charming cheese alone!

And heaven forbid if they decide to remake old series plots and episodes. I haven't seen a single episode yet, but I know those cannot be screwed around without facing the full blown wrath of the fans. I love old Sci-Fi for that very reason. It has that certain level of bad that makes it fun. And occasionally, there are the stories and the episodes that transend time and quality with a message that is still very, very true.

And that is my two bits on why bad science fiction is still loveable and should be left very, very alone.

Because Wicked will come out fighting and boycotting and ranting to high heaven.

I heard about it on the radio this morning. Basically they are unlikely to get Matt Smith to play the Doctor but they haven't said who will yet. It will be directed by David Yates (who did Harry Potter). It won't be out for a few more years as they don't have a script yet. They are looking for someone to write it (currently they are considering Steve Kloves (who wrote the Harry Potter screenplay))
