Right, after many pages, here's more. Oi, it's a long one!
Dear SJ,
I HAVE WINGS! Oh my dog! I CAN FLY!
Well, sort of.
"You can fly, but you must first learn and master it," Derek said, giving me a pat on the back, which wasn't that appropriate for the time seeing as my shoulder blades still ached from the growing of my wings.
"Uh.. yeah. So what does this have to do with the mission?" I asked, flapping my wings experimentally.
"The ability to fly will be to your advantage during missions," he replied. "I should have done this earlier so that we wouldn't waste time with flying lessons."
I shrugged.
To be honest, I didn't think I needed lessons on flying. I'd seen Derek fly around at school before and picked up on the way he did it. Just flap your wings and to glide, just ride the breeze.
"I think I can manage it," I said, flapping my wings. I rose up off the ground a little bit, but then I landed back on the grass with a muffled thud.
"Sure," replied Derek sarcastically.
I glowered at him.
"So... why did you have to bite my arm too?" I changed the subject, redirecting my gaze to the puncture wound that his fangs had made on my arm, only to find that they had healed and disappear. No scars or anything.
"That's why," Derek said. "I needed to make sure that you could heal yourself as well. You remember your accident three weeks ago?"
"Shut up!" I snapped. "Now let me try this."
I backed up to the front of the house and then charged forward toward the street. As soon as I picked up enough speed, I lunged upwards, flapping my wings a couple times and then finding myself soaring above the street. I wheeled around, flipped and turned, seeing what I could do in the air.
A minute later, Derek joined me.
"Nice view, ain't it?" he chuckled, pulling me into an embrace. I nearly fell from how quickly he did so, my wings moving wildly in an attempt to steady myself.
"Uh, Derek? Could you let go? I'm falling a little..."
"Oh, sorry." He released me and I soared over to the roof of the Elite house, landing on it with silent paws. The sun had set a long time ago it seemed, and bright stars dotted the winedark sky.
Derek landed next to me, his pale eyes glowing from the moon's light.
"We need to get moving," he growled. "We should have set out an hour ago!"
I winced at his harsh tone.
"I'm sorry... it's not my fault," I whispered.
Derek shrugged. "I know. It's mine for not turning you into a winged dog when you first came here." He facepawed.
I didn't know what else to say, so I remained silent as we took off into the night, the only sound being the soft flapping of our wings as we glided above the neighbourhood.
After what seemed like an hour, we spotted a large, looming structure located on the outskirts of Nox City.
"The warehouse," Derek growled. "That's our destination. Let's go!" He charged forward, wings beating furiously as he approached the building.
It was old and run-down, just like I pictured it to be. In a way, it almost seemed menacing, knowing what my friend and I had to face when we got there.
Sighing, I followed Derek, wondering how my sister was faring with her illness... Wondering if she would live...
Get a hold of yourself, a voice seemed to say. your family is no longer your concern. The Elites are your family now. What matters now is this mission, not your sister.
Maybe.... maybe that voice was right.
I perked up, adrenaline coursing through my veins. I'd do this for the Elites. I had to. After all, my other family didn't matter, did they?
Well? Did they?
I'm not sure anymore, SJ.
