I'll take a look at some of you guys' pet diaries when I get time.
Dear SJ,
The rest of the day was a blur. I couldn't figure out why Derek had been so... strange.
I mean, he'd suffocated my wrist and told me that I HAD to go with him to the warehouse. It just didn't seem like a Derek kind of action. It was... demanding.
I walked downstairs at sunset and bumped into Maro when I reached the ground floor.
"Sorry," I muttered and tried to slide past him.
Maro held out an arm and stopped me before I could go anywhere.
"Wait," he said. "I wanted to talk to you..."
"Not now, Maro," I snapped, anxious to get away and find Derek so that we could leave.
The red-eyed dog looked crestfallen. It was almost as if there was something important he wanted to say. Words that had something to do with me.
"I have to meet with Derek," I added as I pushed past him.
I glanced back briefly to see a dark look on Maro's face. He didn't like Derek. I could tell.
The pack leader was waiting out in the front lawn when I walked out the door. He turned to me and smirked.
"Didn't think you'd come," he said, flapping his wings.
"Well Derek, you kind of threatened my life," I snarled, locking gazes with him.
"Did I?" he said, walking toward me. "Anyway, that's not the main focus of this mission."
As if I didn't know. What a jerk.
"Now come here. You're going to need what I'm about to give you."
Reluctantly, my paws carried me to Derek. Somewhere deep down I felt a pang of fear. What was he going to give me? A knife? A gun?
Instead, he pulled me close and sank his teeth into his own arm. I jumped back, freaked out.
"What the? Derek what the heck?" I shouted.
He shook his head and then grabbed my arm, doing the same thing. I held back a yip of agony. It hurt so bad....
Derek then held out his own bleeding arm.
"Drink," he commanded.
Drink his blood? Why would I want to do that?
But he didn't give me time to argue; shoving his arm against my lips and forcing me to down the blood that seeped out of the wound.
I started slowly at first, and then sudddenly the blood tasted good. That sweet, metallic taste... I drank more steadily.
Suddenly out of nowhere, he pulled his arm away, causing me to emit a growl of protest.
"Sorry Lux, but any more and I would have fainted."
I felt awake all of a sudden. Energy coursed through my veins. And that's when I felt it. Slow at first, then gaining speed with intensifying pain. My shoulder blades felt like they were extending outward; my back felt heavier.
And then....
Nothing.
Nothing happened.
Or so I thought.
"Congratulations," Derek said. "You're now aerodynamic."
I didn't know what he was talking about, but then I turned around...
And saw that I had wings just like he did.
Here's a picture of me with my new wings.
