Role Play Rant Thread Redux

Feeling confuddled over people's rules.
I joined a fantastic roleplay, but one of the rules is dermfuddling me D:

1. No powers, just abilities. (if that makes sense)
Powers = telekinesis, telepathy, controlling elements, etc...
Abilities = shapeshifting, mutations, etc...

It sounds really good, but I have no idea what they mean. I love the fact it sounds to me like nooblets can't make mad Mary-Sues, but I don't fully understand it.

If you have a mixed roleplay, everybody wants to be a vampire and a girl. Then when there is only one boy, all the girls are just like fighting over him. Also in action roleplays when somebody comes in, goes up to guy, "I really like you, want to get married?" and they haven't met him. I'm okay with romance but not with stuff like that.

And I'm tired of no good roleplays to join, and I'm afraid to start a roleplay because original ideas just don't get popular anymore because everybody loves the cliches. Agh, I can't wait until my friend and I finish our roleplay site. I've had a really organized roleplay written for a while.

Completely agree. My roleplay is probably going to get nowhere because it is based on what Mental Hospitals are really like, not the teenage angsty chained to walls and raped or tortured after trying to 500 people.

I see all those rant 'There's no roiginal rp!' 'There's no good semi-lit rp!' 'There's no original semi-lit rp!' 'All rp's are too crowded!' And those kind of things but then when you go make an rp, no one joins! I made a good semi-lit, original rp and no one joins!

It seems to be that abilites mean something that will change you physically and powers mean something you can use to change things around you

Also, rules. Why are they so hard to write? I know what rules I want, but when writing down I always forget at least three! Bluh.

All rants about "THERE'S NO ORIGINAL RP" or "NOBODY JOINS MY ORIGINAL RP" I just dredge up my "Funeral director trucker murder mystery RP" response.

Is it original or is it weirdly specific? Because you can do original in overused things like wolves, Warriors, whatever. It's not hard.

I see people complain when their super awesome "original" funeral director trucker murder mystery RP dies. That's so weirdly specific and obscure. How many people, when looking for an RP go "You know what I'm in the mood for? A funeral director trucker murder mystery RP?" Nobody. Generic attracts people because it's easy to get in and go.
