Luka nodded." Once upon a time, there was little girl. She was the youngest daughter in a loving family, with an older sister, and two gentle parents. They did everything together. Baked, ate, sang, gardened, everything. They were all very close. But they were all in a terrible debt to the queen, because their oldest son, who had been recruited to fight for the queen in the war against the first outsider, a different Alice, had been killed. It made no sense to the family how that created a debt, but it had. They were told that they had one month to come up with a payment. The family was in confusion. Payment? How much? In a frenzy, they tried to collect money. The father wove more clothes. The mother cooked for more small rester aunts in the square. The older sister drew things and sold the pictures. And the little girl sang. Most people thought of her songs as weird, or unworthy of their time. But others loved it, showering her little beret with coins. This happened for a month, and soon, they had a bag of coins large enough to pay the queen. The family was in a huge relief. When the queen came on the first of the next month, the let the little girl produce the bag to the queen, but it was knocked out of her hands. "Are you mad?! This will never do!" she was about to order the entire families execution, when she remembered the little girl. What were her talents? How old was she? The queen soon took a liking to this little girl, who could bake. But no one knew about her songs. She was taken from her family, to serve the queen, in exchange for their lives and debt. The girl was scared, but glad that she had saved her family. The next few years were horrible. The girl was abused, cold and hungry constantly. But it was okay, because her family was safe. The girl grew into a young woman, bearing terrible scars, most of them mental. She was utterly alone. But it was okay. Because her family was safe. She now waits, for anything. A friend, love, hope. But it's all okay! Because her family is still very safe... Or what's left of it." she smiled, but it was a sad smile. This story hurt. "Your turn!" she said cheerfully, hiding her pain.
