"Hurry! Lux, Maro, Jerry, and Kira! You guys come with me!" Derek shouted.
We all followed him outside to a black pickup truck that was parked down the street in front of Maro's Camaro.
Maro opened the back passenger door for me and I blushed under my fur.
"No," came Derek's stern voice. "Lux will sit up front with me."
Maro's red eyes flashed but he nodded, climbing into the truck and sitting in my previously intended spot.
Derek started up the vehicle as I plopped into the passenger seat. He looked back to make sure we were all here, and then stepped on the gas.
We sped down the street, our surroundings a blur at the speed we were going.
It only took about a minute to reach our destination: a creaky old house; worse than ours (and that's saying a lot.) The front steps had completely decayed, and there was only one floor with what looked like a basement beneath.
We all jumped out of the truck and fell in step behind Derek as he led the way to the house. Seeing as there were hardly any steps to reach the front door, we snuck around to the back, only to find that there was a wooden fence in the way.
Derek snarled under his breath.
"How many more hinderances do we have to encounter?"
I heard what sounded like an amused huff of laughter from Jerry and Kira.
"Hush," hissed Maro, turning to face them.
(Oh, by the way, this is Kira.)
"Sorry," the brown she-dog replied. Jerry shrugged.
"Focus guys!" snapped Derek, kicking one of the boards in the fence. It fell to the ground and we slid through the opening, making a bee-line for the back door.
Suddenly, something slammed into me.
I heard gasps from the other Elites as they were also attacked.
I quickly sprung to my feet, coming face-to-face with a vicious looking dog.
He snarled and we immediately engaged in combat. I dealt several good punches to his chest and gut but was taken by surprise when he sank to the grass and nearly swept my paws out from under me.
Luckily I jumped to avoid his sweep. But I wasn't fast enough to dodge the next hit. He cracked me hard on the head and I was sent tumbling to the green grass.
Fresh blood seeped out of the wound and dripped into my eyes. I was too weak to fight back as my opponent knelt down on top of me, holding up a switchblade in his paw.
Before I could even cry out, he brought the blade down hard into my back. Pulled it out, stabbed me again. I could feel the blood cascading out of my back, staining the grass red as it dripped in streams to the ground.
My breathing slowed and my vision blurred even more. And then it hit me.
I was dying.
Is this how it's supposed to end?
I die before I do anything heroic?
What kind of Elite am I?
Gotta go.
