Quick Guide

Postby Spockylass » Wed Nov 02, 2011 9:04 am

Very quickly drawn guide that generalizes some of my horse drawing techniques. Someone asked for advice.
Really I"m no expert on horses. I just draw what I perceive. =P I do recommend drawing constantly, even if it's just stick figure, because you still get practice with range of motion. Drawing from pictures helps you understand how muscles and such react to position changes, and studying anatomy/skeletons helps you define underlying structure you'll probably find helpful in the long run.

But some of my observations:
1. The front leg bones of a horse aren't connected to the rest of the skeleton. Only muscles and tendons keep them attached.
2. The joint has two parts, where the top connects to the bottom. It's the bottom part that bends from the joint. At the shoulder, the leg goes up or to center. It doesn't go backwards as much as the joint.

I you don't want to go offline to get your info, you should really just use this tutorial that I've found more helpful and thorough:

I read a lot of books too. P:

Let me dig up those books... I'll add the links to my first post. ;D
Redline is like this: viewtopic.php?f=30&t=854774
It's when another artist color over your work to show you how to improve it or how to set up the sketch. :)

I'd be glad to redline them for you. =) I think redlining the horse head would count for drawing one for you, since I'll try to give you some experience tips while I do that. Sound good?
