XD
You're about to find out just exactly an Elite is.
Dear SJ,
"I... I don't understand..." I said, staring at my nails. Boy, did they need cut.
Derek laughed and leaned against the doorframe to the little room I was being held in. "I guess I should tell you now, seeing as it's already morning." He sauntered over and offered a paw. I took it and he pulled me up, grabbing my duffel bag as well.
"Oh, you don't have to get that for----"
He cut me off. "Nah, it's fine. Gotta be a good host." He smiled that quirky smile that had won my heart since the day we met. Speaking of a relationship...
"Are you still with Sapphire?" I asked as he led me downstairs and out into the decaying living room.
Derek's eyes flashed a million emotions at once; moving so fast that I couldn't read them.
"No," he finally growled as we settled down on a tattered couch. Derek dropped my duffel bag on the floor and pivoted around to face me. "She cheated on me... I was totally blind to have dated her."
"Okay," I said, changing the subject, "So, about these Elites..."
"Yes, right," he said, trying not to lean too far back for the sake of his wings as he made himself comfortable. "Allow me to explain."
I nodded, signaling that I was attentive. Derek cleared his throat and began:
"Long ago in Nox City, there was a vicious gang of dogs. These dogs would target anyone; mothers and pups, innocent citizens. Until a new gang entered the city. However, this was no gang. It was a pack. A pack of dogs sent by the CIA to slow down the progress of the gang's crimes. They called themselves the Elites. The Elites would go and silently kidnap and turn in gang members to the FBI at night. Sometimes, an Elite would pretend to be part of a certain gang just so they could lure another criminal to justice.
"And obviously this was, and still is, a very dangerous task. Lux, the dogs at this house, as well as you and I, are Elites. We must protect this city and serve justice... Even if it's the last thing we do."
I stared at him, dumbfounded. "But Derek... Nox City is several miles from our hometown! How did you get here? And how the freak did you become an Elite?"
Derek chuckled and scooted closer. This caused me to grow warm under my fur, and I tried hard to ignore it.
"Lux, that's confidential," he replied with a rueful smile.
"Oh, right," I said, returning the expression.
He stood up, shaking himself. "Starting at dusk today, you will begin training. I wish you luck." He padded out of the room, silent as a spirit.
Training.
I was going to be trained.
To fight crime.
And deliver justice.
I can't wait till later, SJ!
