Bea sighed and watched gleefully while colors burst across the dark sky as the first fireworks went off. Akuji laughed and grinned at her widely. He picked up a crumpled soda can that lay beside him and took a long sip. Another burst of fire went off above them and Bea’s eyes shined with wonder. The colors shot out from an epicenter of fire and spread across the starry sky drifting down slowly to the ocean that lay before them. The beach was crowded and people had come from all around to watch the annual fireworks. Akuji saw Bea shiver and reached over to comfort her. She was not expecting this and whirled around startled when his hand touched hers. She let out a soft “Oh,” and laughed nervously then blushed when she saw she had knocked over her soda. The brown liquid stained the sand just barely missed her jeans. Akuji quickly jumped to his feet. “I’ll get you a new one,” he offered hastily brushing a lock of silky black hair away from his deep maroon eyes. He flashed her once last smile before running off toward the seawall. Sitting in the parking lot among other cars was a large fast food truck which had come for the festivities. There was no line. Everyone was on the beach enjoying the fireworks. The only person there was an exhausted looking attendant around the age of twenty. She was flipping through a large book paying no attention to the outside world though he could tell she would have rather been on the beach with the others. Akuji sighed and looked up at the shimmering moon above him listening to the muted explosions of fireworks and cheers of teenagers behind him. He put his hands in his jean pockets for warmth as an icy breeze ripped through the calm of night. Just as he began to approach the truck something else caught his eye. It was a small patch of flowers swaying gently with the breeze. They were posies. Bea was always telling him how perfectly those flowers matched his eyes. He grinned, the soda could wait. He stepped off the little seashell paved path to see the spot where the flowers grew. Suddenly he heard screams and had only seconds to react. He heard a soft thud behind him and whirled around to see a small cardboard object that had landed by his feet. It looked like a firework, but they were supposed to be in the sky weren’t they? He immediately saw the danger, the firework was lit on the end, its wick growing shorter as if counting down the last seconds of Akuji’s life. His own scream was the last he heard before the explosion.
When he opened his eyes he had to blink a few times before realizing he wasn’t dreaming. The sun was just rising over the horizon and the sky was painted a pastel pink as it often would be in the morning. The morning. Had just one night passed? The beach was empty, so was the parking lot. The beach was spotless, not a speck off litter left from the numerous partygoers he had seen before. What happened? His head hurt. How much time had passed? Then he looked down in front of him, the only thing that seemed to still be there, a pile of posies. Their petals were wilted and a soft film of mold was growing on a few of them but they were something he recognized. They were still there, so it couldn’t have been more than one night, could it have? Yet then why were they in such a sorry state? He convinced himself that he must have just tripped and gotten a concussion or something like that, he couldn’t think clearly. Suddenly Akuji saw someone in the distance. He squinted and feared his eyes were still deceiving him, the woman looked like Bea except for she was older and… different. She looked nearly thirty and her eyes were void of emotion, the smile missing from her face. Bea looked at the small sidewalk leading from the beach to the parking lot. It was empty as always, the beach didn’t get much traffic anymore. She looked directly at Akuji though could not see him. “Here, I brought you some more flowers, they’re the same color as your eyes,” she finished breaking into tears. Akuji watched her and whispered “My eyes,” at the same time as her, as he used to. He could not tell why she was crying. He reached out to grab her arm and comfort her yet his hand went through hers and suddenly he knew. Bea wiped a tear from her cheek and looked at the posies on the ground. She had brought a new bouquet, as she did every month. She had insisted that they be left for him to find. Even though she had been told often by peers that he was gone, she could not fathom this thought and waited for the day when he would return the posies to her. She sighed softly and removed the old and crumbling flowers to reveal a plaque, it read: In loving memory of Akuji Winters 1994-2011.
(And end crummy story here XD, oops did I just break the moment? Not that there was any sort of moment to start with. I got bored and decided to find two of my CS pets to write a story on. I don’t usually do romanticish stuff but I love writing ghost stories so this just sort of came to me when I was looking at the pets, hope people like and at least understand most of it since it was really rushed. This is the result of me being bored and wanting to do something with some of my dressed up CS pets. Maybe later when I'm feeling a bit less lazy I'll make it better.)
