[-goes into total newb mode XD- I'm trying to get more of a handle on what people generally consider a bad trade or a good trade. Obviously this years pets are worth nowhere near as much as a 2008/09/10 buuut this trade in particular I'm curious about. Is it really such a bad trade? Them both being very rare's from 2008? Is it due to one being more in demand or something? Or is it because the dog they were offering was a December dog, making it -almost- a 2009?]

Septembers and Augusts generally are worth a ton more than pets from December 2008.
I believe this is because July, August and September 2008 was the first three months of CS. Very few people from the users that play CS have been here ever since July, August or September 2008, so those pets are a lot rarer than ones from December 2008, as well as much more in demand.
As a newbie, I would've never really caught that. Back when I was a newbie, though, I didn't trade for 2008's unless they were offered to me (or I didn't know years mattered). Back even at December 2010, I would've thought that was a decent trade.

[Ahhh alright thank-you all C: I've only ever traded casually and never bothered learning the rarities but I've always had an eye on the years and try to get them to match, or else I offer more on my side. I'm finally trying to fine-tune my trading skills though so I don't get ripped off and so that I don't accidentally rip off anyone else or make a fail trade XD]
