But somehow humans found something attractive about the defective wolves, and that's why we have dogs with super-short legs, curly fur, and floppy ears- we like those sort of things, and that's alright, but, really, how long do you think your Chihuahua will survive out in the forest by itself?
I watched on a documentary that people actually took the wolves with floppy ears and bred them for that characteristic, then started breeding them after they bred them for floppy ears for more wolf-like ears because they liked that as well.

ever heard of a puggle? it is a mix of a pug and a beagle. and the beagle comes from a hound. and stuff like that.

The Samoyed I believe doesn't come from wolves... Or maybe the American Eskimo Dog... What about the New Guinea Singing Dog? OK, so maybe it's more of a wild dog, but still.


Anyway, just last night I saw this really cool show on Animal Planet about the theory of where dogs came from! There was one scientist who had a theory that perhaps we didn't create all dog breeds on our own. You see, his idea was that the wolves that were naturally less afraid of humans evolved on their own into dogs, that we found use for and then further bred ourselves. The show told that some traits such as adrenaline and fur color are connected.

For example, in Russia, there was an experiment done in, I think, the early thirties, where some man bred the foxes at this place that were least afraid and more curious or something similar of humans. Eventually (he didn't do this on purpose), as the generations of foxes got nicer and more dog-like, so did their appearance. They began to have (I think) bodies built slightly more dog-like, and the variety of their coat colors expanded immensely. Then it showed a youngish girl petting a dog-fox, and it was as friendly as a Golden Retriever puppy! That lucky girl!

BTW: WolfBlade; You LUCKY person!!! Well, I guess I'm technically not old enough to own a wolf/wolf hybrid... But still! I want to work with wolves when I grow up! Don't criticize me about it, please.

Hybrids are really hard to train ,and more demanding than a baby. Lol even My disabled son is less maintenance.
So lucky would be a subjective term.I love my rydag , but I would not recommend a wolfdog as a first pet...or even a 40th lol.

Genetics are very interesting when you consider things like this ^ ^

Take a pack of regular dogs.Set them loose in a penned area to breed freely.After about 40 or so generations you will see them returning to a wolflike state.They still carry with them the old codes <3

Samoyeds and Canadian Eskimos do descend from wolves, same with every other -regular- dog breed. Not too sure about the New Guinea Singing dog.

Remember,most dogs decended from wolves,but some were Crossed with wolf decedents.
