Kaito was the first Japanese Vocaloid. Miku was the first Japanese Vocaloid2.
As for MMD; if you're looking to download, go to this and use 'multi-model 1.2'. It's nice. :3

Thanks for that ^^ It's the best download yet. Last time I tried it came with Winzip, which was being a pain to my laptop.

But this time I can't open the document... perhaps I'm supposed to paste it in program files? :3
